I lucked up on this little soap on E-bay for a very cheap price (less than $3 USD including the shipping). It comes in a neat little plastic bowl with lid and as seen in the picture above (thanks Beyboo!) it's blue!

The scent is wonderful and hard to describe. A very old school, barbershop type scent, and it's quite strong. The puck is a 50g puck and its ingredients are Potassium Palmate, Potassium Cocoate, Glycerine and Ti02.

I have fairly hard water here and it showed trying to lather this soap. I've tried with a boar brush and mug, badger brush and mug and just finally rubbed the puck on my face ala shave stick. The shave stick idea- rubbed in with a boar brush- gave the best lather, which still wasn't wonderful. The lather dried quickly and did not give any type of protection during the shave. The wonderful scent is the only reason that I'll try this soap again...and maybe get it to work eventually. It may work for some, and maybe my water quality is the reason it's not working for me, but I'm glad I found it and was able to give it a shot.

For me, it's more akin to shaving with a bath soap than it is to an inexpensive American soap like Williams or VDH.

As Eric above rightly said "The Williams of India". India is a cream country with legends like Godrej, Palmolive, Park Avenue and the famed original formula Old Spice and many many more.

The Godrej Shave Round is India's only shave soap. At Rs. 16 I get 3 for around a dollar. That is a lot of soap goodness for a buck.

If you have used the Godrej shave creams, then you will be disappointed as this does not compare.

The shave round is primarily aimed at the low income group segment and hence quality for the price. The shave cream costs 3 times as much as the soap.

    Scent
I simply love the really old school scent. It is simply mind blowing and the reason why I get pulled to it again and again...

    Lather, Moisturizing, Lubrication
I keep my Omega boar dipped in some really hot water and while I brush my teeth, I also dip the soap and let it stay with the hot water. I lather it using the technique described in a you-tube video by Zach over at SMF. The soap explodes in to a rich lather (bad luck Eric !), enough for 2 passes. As it is so cheap, I liberally go for another round of creating lather after the 2nd pass.

The lather however falls short of its cream cousins on the moisturizing and Lubrication properties. If you attempt a quick second pass on the same stretch, you will be punished as the skin dries out after a pass. you will have to relather for any touchups.

If I use a middle range Indian blade like Supermax platinum or a Wilkinson Sword from Gillette India, I get the cheapest shave on earth at around Rs. 1 per shave. A Dollar is around Rs.50. Can it get any cheaper ?

Every time I get a DFS, never yet a BBS with the Godrej shave round, however its one of its Kind in India and I simply love it !!

    Much better than Williams!

I can very honestly say that this soap can give Williams a good kick in the butt in every way. My skin is sensitive, but this soap does not make it feel dry or irritated in the least, and I have absolutely no problem to make it to lather rich and correctly for me. It is true that the Godrej creams have better skincare, but there is nothing wrong with this stuff either. I hope to soon have more of them, because I think it is excellent. :)

The Godrej shaving round is an extremely VFM proposition. The cushioning and lubrication is slightly inferior to my Omega / T&H cream and soap / Nivea / Godrej Cream / Park Avenue Cream.
I go around it by mixing in a little cream with the soap in a bowl to whip up a "superlather".
All in all a value for money proposition, currently at Rs 25 a plastic jar of 50 gms in India and Rs 22 for a refill (Rs 60 to a US$ today.)
