I have been struggling with keeping my shave sticks in my toiletry bag. Soggy, messy, etc. I know I could use an old pill container or something else but wanted to keep with my "old school" wet shave look with all of my gear. I have found that the Colgate "Handy Grip" container that was made from 1917 into the 1920's is PERFECT! The top screws on the lid and inside of the screw on lid is another set of threads that will hold many shave sticks. I threaded my La Toja into one of them and has been working well. The Palmolive sticks are a little too narrow but I solve that by placing the stick on a counter and pressing firmly downward which bulges the base of the stick which gives it enough diameter to screw into the base. Have 4 of these now with different sticks in them.
E-Bay, Antique stores. The same places you find razors and brushes of that era. I have a couple of those style one is a Williams Stick holder of the 1920s time period.
Ebay... There are a few on there right now but they want WAY too much for them. Keep checking and every once in a while they show up. Around $9-$12. If you find a "Handy Grip" that has a round screw in top, that was a refill top. I have not seen one of those in person yet. Williams also made one that is called a "holder top" but these are usually much more beat up than the Colgate's and go for a few bucks more. When I search e-bay for these, I will seach "handy grip" "handy shave" "colgate shave" and "shave stick container" If you cannot see that it says "handy grip" and does not look like the one I have in the pics, itis not a handy grip but just a regular tin that the shave stick drops into.
Ive been wondering new sticks would fit in those. Now I wish I would have bought the replated one I saw on the bay awhile back.
They also come up on Etsy.com (it's like eBay for vintage & handmade items, but everything is fixed priced / not auction-style)
