nah, i saw an auction for a supposed gold ranger tech on ebay, but it looks like a milord, but then again ive seen milords that look like gold SSs, so i want sure. im sticking to gems.
The Ranger Tech is silver. I think it came out in 1940 or 1941 but production was halted by WW2. After WW2 came the SuperSpeed.
the sheraton was the open comb version and the senator/regent tech was the silver version of the sheraton.
Okay, I saw it. It is a 1946 Milord which could, in a very technical sense be called a gold Ranger Tech since they are the same razors with different plating. Hey, based on that logic, I now have an uber rare gold President! :happy102
There was also a less commonly seen 1946 Ranger tech that had end caps. And lest you think someone stuck end caps on a 1941, note the subtle differences in the TTO knobs and the silver band right above the knob, as well as the lack of patent info inscribed on the band. This is exactly like the 1946 Milord. Wrong. THIS is a Regent Tech.
Rick, just curious about something. And a bit confused too (although that is nothing too uncommon with me). I have the razor pictured on the left, both in nickel, and in gold. Everything is exactly the same except the plating. They both have endcaps, smooth band above the TTO knob with no writing on it, and un-notched center bars. So, are they still actually considered to be different models? Is the nickel one a Ranger Tech, and the gold a Milord Tech? Just want to be sure about all this so I can get them labeled correctly. Also, what is the approximate value of each, assuming they are in good condition?
Exactly this. As for value, it's a bit hard to say because they don't show up very often -- especially the 1946 Ranger Tech, but here is an auction that just recently ended for one. As for the Milords, who can understand eBay bidding? I bought a cased one not too long ago that hardly looked like it was ever used for $35, but in the past, have seen them go as high as $150. I certainly think the 1946 RT will be generally be worth more because of its rarity.
This whole Ranger/Milord thing is odd. I mean, it essentially is the same razor, just with different plating. Did they just make more of the gold plated ones? Oh yeah, I appreciate the thorough response too.
It is kind of like the President Diplomat thing. Same thing, just different plating. Of course the cases are different also. It gets even more confusing when there are two identical razors that have different names just based on what case they came in.
