I would like to add a straight razor to my shaving routine with my DE razor. Are there any good starter sets that includemeverything inwill neednand not cost me an arm and leg? Thanks!
Depends what price range you're looking for. There's a rather decent shortage on new (properly honed as well) razors, but Whipped Dog will give you an inexpensive but quality blade to start with. There's also ClassicEdge who I've dealt with before and he does a good honing job on the new razors you buy from him. GemStar Customs also has at least one of the Damn Fine Shaver series available I believe as well.
It's kind of like your signature line...remember, this wet shaving business will save you money . There are quite a few reputable vendors out there that could get you set up. Also depends if you want brand new or if you don't mind using something vintage.
I agree. I have had more than a hundred straights all but two are vintage. You can get a higher quality vintage razor for a cheaper pricer than a new one sometimes. Larry at whippeddog has inexpensive vintage razors that he's honed that would be okay for learning. The cheapest strop setup he has is well worth it because of the balsa strip with CrOx and FeOx for touchups, but the little leather strip that comes with it isn't very useful. He now has some "real" strops. I would start with a good strop. Shaving forums have some good deals on shave ready razors, especially badgerandblade and straightrazorplace.
