What are some shaving creams/Soaps you all think that are often overlooked due to it being cheap? Something that works and lather great. Seems like Arko is possibly one, what about Godrej? Ive been looking for the Menthol one and cant seem to find it..
I don't know if it qualifies as underated but I've been satisfied with Colonel Conk's shave soap. I bought the sampler that contains amber, bay rum, almond and lime and though they all worked well and smelled nice. They were my first shave soap experience, but afterwards I've used some more and less expensive soaps and thought that Conks still performed well. I haven't seen the name thrown around too often around here, but still think they are a nice soap.
creams: real shaving company, JM frasers,Kiss my face, Tom's of Maine(discontinued), Nivea moisture shave cream(florena), Palmolive Soaps: Palmolive shave stick, Pre de Provence.
I just found some Kiss My Face cream yesterday at a discount grocery a couple of towns north. It's on the agenda for this morning.
Cheap and amazing: Proraso Speick Cheap and really good: Arko Commando Kiss My Face Cheap and it works, but it ain't exciting: Palmolive Lemon VDH Williams Haven't tried it but seems to be the greatest value in DE creams: JM Fraser
The Real Shaving Company is the same quality as TOBS, but for 1/3 of the price. If only the scent wasn't quite so unique.
+1 on J M Fraser's It's made here in Toronto, so it's easy for me to get. I use it, and like it, alot. My other cheap under-rated favourite is Kappus. A good cream that goes for $3 a tube at Dominion supermarkets. Kaloderma is essentially Nivea's Florena cream with a new name - same price, same scent, same performance. Beats me why Nivea dumped the Florena name. It commanded huge brand loyalty here in Canada. Best Regards goshawk
WARS shaving cream is an excellent product for 3 USD I got all my Crabtree and Evelyn shave creams for 5-10 dollars on sale (except for the SAO I have purchased lately). I think they make good products if you can find them on sale. Arko shave stick Godrej
soaps: Williams, VDH, Colgate (if you can find it), soaps from Susie's Bubbles, TSD brand. Creams: TSD brand, Arko, Rilanja (European drugstore brand. Hard to find in US but very good and very economical) Actual cost of individual pucks and tubes of these brands is less than $5, save for the TSD brand which is a touch more but very much worth it. Williams and VDH sell for less than $2 at most stores and they're my go to soaps.
+1 on the VDH Deluxe Soap, Its great. Scent is ok, but for $2 a puck it does it job very well. Slick and cushiony, nice and creamy goodness
Ah, my forte, budget stuff that really works. Here's my short list: Soaps: VDH Deluxe Williams TSD (I've yet to try one that was not absolutely outstanding) Brushes: Semogue 1305 and 2000 Omega Boars AS Balms, Moisturizers, etc.: Dickinson's WH Corn Huskers Lotion Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel Liquid Glycerin (good as a pre-shave or as an additive to soaps super slick and moisturizing) Colognes and EdT's Knock Offs will save you lots of $$ but some are better than others NOW FOR THE STEER OF THE CENTURY!: Ever had that day where everything seemed to go wrong. Despite using a great razor with a new blade and your favorite soap, after a couple passes, your neck is just red, irritated and your entire face feels like you've just shaved with a broken beer bottle followed by a healthy splash of isopropyl alcohol? Your face just throbs all day and you can't even facerbate without cringing. The voice in the back of your head will be screaming not to shave the next day but you can shave the following day but remember quitters never win and winners never quit. Here's what you do, pick a mild razor with a fairly new (if not brand new) blade. Do two very gentle passes followed by a cold water rinse. At this point your face will be completely on fire and you'll no doubt wonder what the hell you were thinking. Here's where the magic starts. Stay away from witch hazel or your normal post shave moisturizers and go with this stuff (available for cheap in the sun burn remedy section of Walmart or Walgreens for a couple bucks a bottle Ocean Potion Ice contains aloe vera, tea tree oil and lidocaine. It's 100% guaranteed to take away irritation and burning or my name ain't 1OldGI. I probably wouldn't use it daily but I keep a bottle in my shave cave for just such emergencies.
I bought a few off of a member on here named Pauldog. I am not sure of he still has them, but I would definitely shoot him a PM. He is an excellent guy to deal with and has extremely fair prices.
WARS? Oh yeah, I thought I read that he was carrying wars awhile back. Lapse in memory strikes again.
