Great deal on a television

I was searching for a nice medium size TV. What a deal I found! I think I'll order two?

Umm yes ... that's Jamaican dollars. About US$ 420; sounds like a fair price?

 

I hope at that price, you bought two and paid for expedited shipping.

 

Since the shop is in Kingston, that might be pretty expensive

No need to ... the price is only strange when you would assume it's USD or CAD. But the shop clearly states their prices are in JMD.



More interesting ... the word "dollar" originates from "daalder", which was a former currency in the Netherlands. Emigrants took it with them (and maybe even some coins too?).

 

I didn't follow up to note that it was Jamaican dollars. At $42o it's still expensive.

I'm always amazed at the amount of knowledge I gather here at TSD.

I just bought a 40" LED TV for about $260 USD.

 

The $.30 ruined it for me.

 

Electronics are cheaper in the USA, and you probably have much lower sales tax.

 

It's funny how electronics made in Japan actually cost more there than in the US.

That is possible. I do not know what the sales tax is for you. In NYC it is 8.875%.

Almost $55.000 that's crazy! Not sure how much these things go for these days, but that sounds ridiculous to me. Little Jonny down the street will sell me a flat screen for $50 lol.
