While I've shown on TSD my Great Uncle's Gillette Old Type several times, I don't believe I've ever shown his shave mug. He passed away in the 1930's. His daughter, My Aunt gave both to me shortly after I started DE shaving. I initially didn't believe this beautiful mug was used for shaving but, sure enough, it had old soap residue inside. I cleaned it lightly and now keep it in a curio cabinet. So I wanted to share with my TSD friends.

The mug has the name B&H, Lemoges, France on the bottom. I wondered if any of you learned TSD members might be able to shed some light on the maker of the mug.

Can't offer any insight on the mug, but it is pretty. It's a cool way to acquire something like that.

It's beautiful, it doesn't even look used. How cool is that! Good for you Herm. I'm gonna check the web for any info on them. :)

Here's what a quick search found:
Blakeman & Henderson, a decorating company, commissioned high quality porcelain, including dinnerware, from the Limogesregion of France in the late 1890s to early 1900s.

It's very cool, so now you have a general idea of how old it could be but also this company produced fine goods from France! Very :signs021:!!

Thanks for all the nice comments. What's amazing to me is that my Aunt saved these items. The Old Type is perfect and, no cracks! I've used it and its a great shave. The mug will just be admired. I'm not giving my butterfingers a chance at breaking it.

My Aunt was over for dinner. I stand corrected. While the razor is my Great Uncle's, her father's. The mug is my Great Grandfather's on my Mother's side. She said it was her husband's (my Uncle) Grandfather's mug. She's 91 now, so I'm no so sure how strong her memory is. Either way, it's a cool heirloom. :taunt002:

To expand on this post, the Limoges region of France (is?) was famous for it's high quality fine decorated porcelain.
