Hello all, What would we do without our wives? Or what would we avoid if not for them? I would have avoided wet shaving most likely, if not for my lovely wife. As part of my valentines gift this year I was given a wet shaving kit. It is by no means top of the line but this is my first exposure to the art so I am more than content to learn with this current kit. The kit I was given was a Van der Hagen kit from target which included a boar brush. A few days prior, we were in target and I saw this in their hygeine section. I expressed interest in it and so my wife purchased it a few days later. Up unitl now I have been shaving for approximately 13 years. I was never told how to shave and just ventured into the bathroom one day, grabbed a disposable razor from my dads cabinet, and start hacking away at my whiskers. Little did I know there was such an art behind it. Now I have been almost obsessed with the amount of info out there in regards to wet shaving. I have spent so many hours lately reading and watching videos on the art. I plan to be here for the long haul and share more of my experience with you in the following days. Glad to have stumbled upon TSD.
Thank you for your service and welcome. The people here are fantastic and will go out of their way to help you.
to TSD "Manny87" Thank you for your service. I hope you enjoy it here, glad you stumbled on us and decided to come in and look around. That's a good wife you have there, perhaps after you get the hang of "traditional" shaving she will want to give it a try also. We have many women/wives who shave using DE,SE, Injector and even Straights here.
Welcome to the Den! I very much liked the Van der Hagen boar brush I got in the same kit. Unfortunately mine was a shedder, which was not a problem until it lost a clump from the middle of the knot. Hopefully yours will hold up better but it might be a good idea to think about a back-up just in case. There are some really good synthetics available inexpensively, people are saying very good things about the Razorock and Maggard synthetics.
Welcome! Folks in the military are our sheep dogs. That's a good thing, because the rest of us are the sheep. Y'all keep the wolves away. Thank you for your service! Many of us, me included, started with a VanDerHagen kit. Nothing wrong with being a well shaved sheep dog
Hello and welcome, The VDH is a great start and it's what got me started also! Glad to have you here and thank you for your service!
