Hi, I am a new member to your fine forum. I decided to join because of my interest in the new iKon razor discussed on this forum. I tried to link to the thread, but my post count is too low. The open comb model looks especially fine. I currently use a Gillette New open comb, and enjoy really great shaves using it, so another open comb option is always interesting. I have been wet shaving for a couple years now, but have never achieved that holy grail of the irritation free completely BBS shave. If I do go for the BBS shave, I will certainly pay for it when the aftershave is applied. So this is the year dedicated to the total improvement of my technique. Later, perhaps I can post more of what my routine is, and get some constructive feedback from you gents here. In the meantime, it is great to be aboard, and it looks like there is a ton of info to peruse. Happy Shaving!
Welcome to The Shave Den. A great community of guys and gals that enjoy wet shaving! I hope you enjoy your stay. Even though you are not a newbie to wet shaving, be sure to sign up for the January Newbie Give-Away for a chance to win some great shave gear. Because after all, free is good! I wouldn't worry too much about the whole BBS thing, as there are some people that will just never be able to achieve it for one reason or another. the most important thing is to enjoy your shaves. If BBS happens great, if not, it sure can be fun trying.
Thanks for the welcome. I think the time spent here will be very enjoyable. And I did sign up for the contest, free really is good! One of the many reasons I got into the DE shaving was because the multiblade carts, even the Trac II, would cause me no end of ingrown hairs. Very annoying. The DE razor has ended that, but I don't get as close a shave. I used to use a brush and whatever soap was sold at the drugstore back in the day with the Trac II. Now I am using Prairie Creations tallow soap and have some Gentleman's Quarter cream as well. My next goal is to work at building a good, respectable lather. Also, I am going to stop rotating among all the razors in the herd, and just stick to the one until all the kinks are worked out. In the current rotation are: Gillette Red Tip Gillette New, ball end Merkur HD Fatboy and an Aristocrat, a Thirties vintage one, I think. No notch on the center bar. I will probably go with either the Red Tip or the HD, until the technique can be sorted out. For a brush, I have a Menu synthetic bristle brush. It will do for now, but I want to try a nicer badger brush at some point. Also, the Omega boar bristle brushes sound nice, especially on the firmer soaps. Thanks again for all the welcome. This seems like a real nice place.
Looks like you have some nice gear there, and you have a plan sorted out to get you where you want to be shave wise, so I hope you get where you want to be. Keep us updated on your progress, and welcome again!
