Last week I ordered a 5/8 restored Jim Slick from B&B. Cost: $28 shipped. Well I got it today and thought "I will just try the cheeks, and only WTG" That lasted all of 4 seconds. I ended up doing a standard 3 pass shave. No nicks. No cuts. BBS. At least on my cheeks. I think the jawline is actually smoother than I usually get with my DE. Around the goatee too. I honestly don't think I have ever spent $28 better in my life. It was an incredible shave, and infinitely better than I was expecting on my first shave. Basically shaving nirvana.
For the last year I have been using a DE and had fully convinced myself I would not be interested in trying a straight. Too clumsy, too scared, too expensive, blah blah blah. But I fell in love with the looks, and heard a lot of good things about the shave. In my opinion its pretty hard to do any real damage.
Good Stuff! I cut myself up for dinner and leftovers the first few times I used a straight; nice to see someone have some real success right off. :happy096 Congrats goshawk
That's great news! But just watch out for that "beginner's luck." Don't get complacent and let the blade dig you. Sounds like you got the fundamentals right the first time, and started with a good, sharp blade. But watch your angles, and watch that you don't roll the edge or dull it down with a poor stropping technique. I'm glad the first time went so well.
+1 Words of wisdom there. I have always nicked myself when I got complacent. Constant Vigilance!! Having said that, congrats on your first straight shave success. You will get addicted... James.
Congrats Yes, it feels great having accomplished a task that you thought of being very hard...but remember SR shaving is an art, the development is slow; but rewarding. Just stick with it, shave with a SR every day.
