Did my second shave today with my free Harry's razor. My bride walked into the bathroom just as I was finishing and she asked me if I'd been in a fight. The single-edge trimmer blade is the worst - pulled lots of blood around my 'stache. The multi-blade side pulls dramatically, too, instead of cutting cleanly. I'm pretty sure I would have done better shaving with a weed whacker. I called Harry's and they refunded my trial and the blade pack they sent out Monday. If you have any sort of a tough, full beard, pass on Harry's. Great customer service and awesome packaging, but very poor hardware performance. My sons in high school still have pretty soft beards so these cheap Harry's blades will probably work OK for them. My shaving plan is this... Wash face with olive oil soap. Rub vitamin E oil into beard. Apply Cremo shave cream Shave with Gillette Fusion blade. Upon completion, dry blade thoroughly and spray with WD-40 (this is the most important step for preserving and extending blade life.) Change to new Gillette Fusion blade on the first of every month. Glad to be of help here.
Welcome @Charlton Heston ! I'm not familiar with Harry's razors. Can you post a photo of the single edge and multi blade detail? The other kind - Gillette Fusion are certainly welcome here. There is a Cartridge Razor forum HERE! I was a MachIII shaver until I crossed over to The Dark Side - straight razors. I've since enjoyed Vintage Gillette DE's, Schick SE's, A prototype razor that's still in testing. What ever type of razor you like, or are interested in can be seen in the forum! And then there's soaps, brushes, bowls, aftershaves...Use that search box, or ask questions.
I had the opposite experience. If I was DE shaving, Harry's would be my razor. Each face is different. Welcome aboard!
Harry's is one of those subscription deals like Dollar Shave Club harrys.kahm (sorry for the weird URL. I'm too new to post real URLs.) I had been hearing ads on the radio and seeing banner ads on websites for months, so I finally broke down and ordered my free trial that ran me $3. The first shave was a little uncomfortable - not smooth. But when my wife took a look at me after the second try and she asked me if I'd been in a fight, I knew I had made a mistake. So, my quest for an affordable, high-quality shave continues. Gillette Fusion is certainly high-quality, but not inexpensive. But I have developed a protocol that allows me to go a full month on a single Fusion blade. The trick is WD-40 on the blades after each shave. That keeps the blades from developing micro rust pits on the cutting edges.
Hi @Charlton Heston, Welcome to TSD. In your quest for high-quality affordable shaves you may want to check out Dorco USA, they are the same razors that DSC uses at an even better price without the subscription. Also, I don't know if you are interested or not, a DE razor and a years worth of blades can be had for less then $20 and many here would advocate that DE shaving would be even higher quality then any cartridge shave at a much more affordable price (as long as you don't fall into the pitfall of turning wet-shaving into a hobby like so many of us, myself included).
He said it every bit as well as I could. ***And with traditional shaving, blades are so cheap you wouldn't put WD-40 on them because it's too expensive. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
The funnest part of the whole thing is that every razor in this picture cost less than an 8 pack of Proglides, and gives a great shave. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Harry's was the last cartridge razor that I bought. I bought the Winston handle package got a can of goo and couple extra cartridges of blades. I got a pretty good shave out of it. That was a couple years ago. SWMBO now uses it. When the carts run out I have a lady Gillette Blue Star with which I will set her up. It was nice you didn't have to join a plan. I just ordered more carts as I needed them. I thought their blades work as well as the Gillette, and we're a lot less expensive. That being said, maybe Harry's is losing ground and trying to drum up more business by giving away their product. I enjoy my traditional razors and shaving products too much to go back to carts. Anyway welcome to The Shave Den. It's a great group of people, information, and humor. BTW. As I've stated in other posts long before, technicians at PPG have shown us that WD-40 actually eats metal. That's how it loosens rust. Try cleaning your blades with a toothbrush followed by a few drops of alcohol to evaporate the water or use your wife's blow dryer. ... To be continued... Don
Of course if you take those razors and all of the ones that aren't in the picture, I could probably buy a lifetime's worth of Proglides. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I was never a cartridge user. I learned how to shave with a Personna Single Blade disposable because that is what my dad used. They are actually pretty good. I used them up until a few years ago when I bought my first DE razor. After somewhat of a learning curve I am happy to say that I will never use a disposable again unless I am traveling. A few years ago someone in my family didn't know what to get me for Christmas. They quickly learned that I was really into shaving, so they got me a Shick Quatro. I only shaved 1 time with this and I wasn't impressed. Not that it didn't remove the hair because it certainly did that. After only 1 WTG pass it left me with about 5 ingrown hairs. Welcome to TDS Charlton. We are looking forward to helping you !!!
I've always thought if I was a rich guy I'd have compressed air in my bathroom to blow out razors. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
If you care to know.., "WD-40 isn't actually a true lubricant. WD stands for "water displacing" and its main use is as a solvent or rust dissolver. The lubricant-like properties of WD-40 come not from the substance itself, but from dissolving components. And the effect doesn't last. WD-40 is hygroscopic and will attract moisture which will result in rust. Never JUST use WD-40. It attracts dirt and dust." ... to be continued... Don
If you're anyway like me, you're full of enough hot air that all you have to do press your lips together and blow. Saves a lot of money. ... to be continued... Don
See, but if there's no rust on the metal to begin with, WD-40 provides nice water displacement properties and keeps a fine coating on my blades until I shave again in 48 hours. I have a thick, full, wiry beard and people find it hard to believe I don't turn a blade into a butter knife after a couple shaves. Keep the standing water off the cutting edges and you'll get a month out of a Fusion blade.
