bought them on a whim. If you bought two packs of 10, the second one was half off. they shave good, although at $5.99 for a pack of 10, i don't know how good of a deal that is
I use those ASR blades a good bit in my DE razors. They are not bad at all, maybe a bit more expensive then online stuff.. but I like that I can buy them off the shelf local. Fuzzy
what does "ASR" stand for? I don't see "ASR" anywhere on the packaging. I bought some Rite-Aid blades and they look just like the ones I got at CVS
American safety razor.. there should be an ASR emblem on the cardboard somewhere.,. they make most of those blades and rebrand them. Fuzzy
Those store brand blades are what got me into traditional wetshaving. For many years, I noticed that the double-edge blades were the least expensive type of all. Oddly enough, I never purchased any of the ASR rebranded blades, buying samplers and blades online instead. After reading the posts in this thread, however, I am about to walk down to CVS, buy some and try them out. Any company that has been around 135 years must be doing something right.
Like Fuzzy said, American Safety Razor. If you see any blades that state the are made in America, thats who made them. They may sometimes carry the Personna name on the package too. If you have a Wal-Mart nearby they can usually be had there cheaper than CVS.
so, then, are these Rite Aid/CVS "ASR" blades the exact same blade as the ones that are marked "Personna" that are indvidualy wrapped in blue paper that I got for $50.00 for 250 or them at the fancy knife store here? The blue wrapped Personna do say "Made in the U.S.A." on the blade and they do say "American Safety Razor Company on the back of the wrapping paper
I started with the CVS blades a couple weeks ago and they where pretty good and I really like the convinience of being able to pick up at any walgreens/rite aid/cvs if ever needed., I am currently using 7am and they seem to be a bit smoother/sharper for me so far.
A lot of stores sell those rebranded ASR blades and there is nothing wrong with that. If they work for you it is nice and convenient to be able to pick them up at need. However, look careful at the package. A cheaper version of the Dorco blades is also available in stores and they package almost identically. In fact, they have been hit with a lawasuit because they look too similar. About the only way to tell the difference is to look for a Made in Korea on the cardboard. ASR made blades also usually have made in USA on the actual blades. But otherwise the blades have basically the same white container and the same black arrows on the blade. But they are not the same quality.
The only answer I can give to that is, maybe. If you look at this thread, you will see different opinions about the Personna line of blades. I really can't offer up more support one way or the other, since I have only tried the Wal-Mart branded ASR's.
holy sh*t am i confused now. oh well, I'm just gonna keep shaving and trying all sorts of blades. In the next month I'm gonna get a silver tip badger hair brush
Fixed the first one for you... If you think those are confusing, just try to figure out the whole Israeli made Personna situation sometime. :whacky011 Have fun trying out the different blades, you will find the "one" for you eventually.
ASR makes all SE blades. They come in different brand names, Gem Blue Star, Treet, Gem by Personna, CVS, "Ted Pella's". The only difference is some are carbon steel, some are stainless steel, and some are teflon coated stainless steel. The trick is getting the coated stainless ones at the best price. Buying in bulk I can get the premium SE blades for a little over 31 cents per blade. That is less than half for what you are paying for the cvs blades that are most likely not coated.
That is not completely correct.. here we have a line of less expensive personal care items called Top Care.. they SE blades are Korean made and suck big time. Fuzzy
Drugstore blades (I think all of them are the same, cvs, rite aid, etc) are not bad in a pinch but I still think their are cheaper and better blades to be had.
