This is a Gold Bug that came in with Celluloid Rot Look close at the Wedge, that is what is actually off gassing, it is also apparent from the corrosion at the toe You can see the issue at the center of the edge too.. I ground out a new point on the 2x72 already Before doing a complete restore, I always make sure I have solid clean steel By using about a 60° spine lift on the very flat DMT 325 I can take off steel fast and get rid of the Frown This pic gives a good idea how I am controlling the blade by cinching up my grip toward the blade rather than the tang Switching over to a perfectly flat 1k Chosera with slurry I drop to about 20° spine lift and then finally a couple of layers of tape to set a rough bevel Remember I am only checking for clean steel "at this point in time" I am not trying to set a shaving bevel yet And finding clean healthy steel at the bevel, I can now start a full restore with confidence, Gold Bugs are excellent shavers so it makes the repairs worthwhile on this Heirloom Still needs more Polishing and new Scales Hone On
This thread reminds me, I have a newly acquired Gold Bug box, in excellent condition. I need to dig through my stash to find a worthy Gold Bug to occupy it.
