Wish I would have found this site sooner. I have been shaving for years with the Mach 3, about every 3-4 days. I recently took a job that required me to shave everyday. That will not happen witht the Mach 3 unless I want to change blades every single day since my facial hair is so thick. Too much money there. I just recently purchased a Merkur Futur and tried it with face soap, ouch! I then went to Walmart and bought a brush and bowl set for $8.00. It helps, but have a hard time getting lather from this. Today, I bought some soap (Sandalwood) from Crabtree & Evelynn and cannot wait to try it. I was going to buy a new brush, but was not sure of the one they had (a silver handled pure badger, small and it was $50.00) since it said C&E on it. Anyway, I see there is a lot of good info on here and look forward to visiting the site often. Sorry for the long intro....

Let me say welcome. There are info/tutorials in the shaving school threads that will definately help with your lather.

From what I recall a number of people like the C&E brush as well. You can find out more by checking out the reviews under C, C&E stands for Crabtree and Evelyn of course... ;)

    Welcome, and enjoy.

    Welcome to TSD!
C&E sells rebranded Edwin Jagger brushes. They're good brushes and a really good value for a badger brush. I suspect the difficulty in creating lather with the Van Der Hagen set sold at WalMart is due not to the soap, but the brush. The soap is actually pretty good, other than it doesn't last very long. Also, don't get a general impression of boar brushes from that Van Der Hagen brush. I know Omega and Vulfix boar brushes are far better and hear similar things about Semague. I think my vulfix boar is comparable overall to my C&E Best Badger brush.
