Hi all and thank you for letting me join the group. I just started DE shaving a few weeks ago and have started collecting vintage razors. I had been brush shaving with cartridges on and off for 35 years. I wanted to switch to DE for a while, mostly because of the plastic waste and cost of cartridges. When I was in Germany in September I saw a Wilkinson Sword DE razor with 5 blades in the supermarket for $5. That's a pretty low committment price. Now I have several classic Gillettes, slims, Super Adjustables, Fatboys and a Super Speed from the 40s. It's certainly an interesting hobby and I'm enjoying learning about the history of the different models.
Welcome to the Den from New Jersey! Spent '83 to '86 stationed at Rhein Main AB (closed now) with the Air Force. We shared the runway with Frankfurt International. Loved Germany!,
Welcome to the Den from east TN! The history of various razors is very interesting...especially if you know the specific history of the razors in your collection. I have a cased Fatboy that was given to me by my current landlord whose father bought it brand new.
hello and welcome from canader.35 ish years with carts.thoroughly enjoying vintage gillettes for 6+ years.
Thanks, I remember Rhein Main very well. I was stationed north of Frankfurt, in Giessen from 87-92 and flew into Frankfurt and Rhein Main several times. It's a little sad now to not see the lined up C-130s and other transports out the window when you're landing there. I'm actually originally from Scranton, PA and had relatives in New Jersey. Just living in VA now.
Thanks, I have a couple of Fatboys coming in the mail soon but they're not in great condition. One is overclocked and doesn't tighten apparently; think I can probably straighten that out; they other has some of the finish worn off. I have a couple nice Slims and Super Adjustables. Fredericksburg, where I live, is full of antique stores but I rarely see razors. I guess I just have to be patient.
