Hello all, just found your forum and thought I would try and absorb some of the knowledge and experience you guys have here (God knows I need it!!). Just started using a DE razor this week and I am LOVING IT!! I can’t grow whiskers fast enough. I am still getting razor burn but I got that with my old razor to so……anyway just want to introduce myself and say hi.
Hi! Welcome to the Den. Be sure to sign up for the June Newbie Give-Away. Beautiful pup. Sheltie, Aussie or other?
Hi David, and welcome to the den. Try using a little less pressure and more prep. I too use to get razor burn under my jawline with cartridges, and also after my first few DE shaves. Then I got some awesome advice from the guys here and... Wala!! No more razor burn.
Thank you!! . He is a Aussie/Heeler Mix, got him at a shelter (not sure why he was there have had him 3 years best dog I have ever had). I have been looking around and this place seemed the best. YES under the jaw line. My hair grows in swirls! There is no with or against the grain just pain.....
to the Den. Here are a couple of suggestions: 1) Buy yourself a sample pack of blades and try different brands. 2) NO pressure. Let the weight of the razor do the work. 3) Use a good pre-shave prep. 4) Get your razor angle right, lock your wrist and use your arm to move the razor. 5) Use short strokes. 6) Make sure you create a good moist lather. 7) Never shave a spot that isn't lathered. 8) Rinse your face between passes and relather. 9) Have a good post shave treatment. 10) Take your time and enjoy your prep and shave. There's no rush. These are just a few pointers to get you started. Have fun and let us know how your coming along.
I do need a little advice on a certain matter... I would normally shave every other day with my old razor to avoid the worst of the razor burn. I had to wait for the burn to go down and hair to get long enough. I could shave every day but it would just be too painful. Now with my new/old razor I feel I need to let things heal longer or I might just keep opening the same wounds, should I keep up my normal routine or take it a little easy??
Welcome to the Den! Everybody heals differently, So I would say whatever works for your face. It will tell you if you need some time off.
I had to take a day off here and there when I started with a DE. Now I can shave every day and haven't needed a day off in months.
David, welcome to the Den! I can't add anything to all of the great advice that you already got. Listen to what your face tells you and enjoy your shaves. No need to rush it; you have plenty of shaves ahead of you.
