I have two that should be here tomorrow. Curious as to what to use to lap a strata with. the only lapping stone I have is a Norton, not sure if that's to coarse as this is my first natural stone. what is the best way to go about it? It says it has been lapped with a DMT, am I wrong that natural stones shouldn't be lapped with a diamond plate? Any info is greatly appreciated.
Certain stones need lapping and polishing beyond the abilities of plates or sandpaper, Arkansas and Charnley Forest come to mind immediately some stones mostly oil stones need a "Sheen" or a "Reflective Gloss" surface to work at their best.. For almost all water stones this extreme polishing is simply not needed (some do believe it helps) to get a great polish on the bevel.. I have only used The Apache on one razor so far, but it seems soft enough that a high polish above the DMT 325 level would not be needed
