Just received my Wieshi today. Newbie, taking one last browse through the Shave Den before I get ready for a shower and shave. I haven't shaved for 3 days and the stuble is pretty long ... almost a short beard. I don't have a brush or cream yet either. Maybe a bit too aggressive for my first try but I'm going for it anyway. Gonna shower and hydrate my face, squirt some gillette shaving cream out of the can, leave it on my face for a minute or two, load up one of Dorco ST300's that came with the razor and go for it
Good luck. Let us know how it goes and tell me what you think of that Wieshi, I am thinking about getting one for my son.
You'll be fine. You'll have to find your own way, but if you don't mind a couple of suggestions . . . Get some soap, or some cream that comes in a tube (like Proraso or Musgo), and learn to lather with a brush. You probably were intending to, anyway. Because the Weishi is such a "mild" razor, expect a lot of passes for a 3 day growth. Don't pay too much attention to annoying givers of gratuitous advice like me, but feel free to ask as many questions here as you need.
Wow, the thought of going after 3 days growth using canned goo and a Dorco ST-300... Best of luck to you, and remember that it can be so much better than that.
The best of luck with your maiden shave and let us know what the result is :happy088 From this point onward, it will all get better and better and better
I have to second the suggestion that you get a good cream or soap and use a brush to make your lather. As far as soaps and creams go there are many guys who use the expensive English creams and soaps but that is not necessary. You can get started with cheap Williams Mug Soap or Van de Hagen soap purchased at your local pharmacy. The brush is another thing that you can get inexpensively. Your pharmacy can be a source of a cheap beginner brush as well. Do not expect the soap and brush from the pharmacy to be a long term answer for making lather. Browse the Brush, Soap and Cream forums here and at Shave My Face for discussions about other more expensive items of that nature. The guys here at TSD are more than willing to share our experiences with the various types of brushes, soaps and creams. Take your time and get a feel for traditional wet shaving before you spend a ton or money. Finally, I am surprised that no one has recommended you watch the many videos that Mantic59 has made about wetshaving. They are the ultimate guide to wet shaving especially for beginners. You will find a link to them in the thread pinned to the top of this forum. Good luck with that first shave. Waiting to hear how it went.
