Here it goes again in the news cycle, "E-cig lawsuits exploding" (see what they did there?)

There's two reasons an e-cig (the battery, actually) explodes. Either some fool tweaks it trying to get more power out of it, or it's plain defective junk. The occasional bad battery can happen in any product and that's unfortunate if it causes harm. But from what I hear is, it's usually the former--someone tried messing with it.

When I first started five years ago, I had a nice unit that looked exactly like a tobacco pipe. I stupidly put the battery in the charger backwards (not paying attention) and went to bed. Woke up to a loud hissing sound and the living room filled with smoke. Could have been worse but it was my fault. Have used many units since with no issues.

That "article" is a cleverly disguised advertisement for a firm of ambulance chasing lawyers.

I don't understand why people put burned chemicals into their lungs. But, I do understand its a way to get off of cigarettes.
I've spoken with many former crack addicts who have told me it's harder to quit cigarettes than crack.
Now, for those vaping: how hard is it to quit vaping, and not backslide to cigarettes again?

Compared to thousands of chemicals cigs have and very few in ecigs it's better. One pack of cigs will have enough chemicals for a vapor to have in over a year and only a couple of them. The Brits have done many studies compared to the US and find it safe. They want more taxes and regulations here cause of less cigarette sales to make up the difference. It's why cigarette companies now own a lot of ecig companies. Also vapors can lower the nicotine level gradually and eliquid does not burn, think of it as heating up water to make steam. It's a vapor, not smoke.

It's possible to overheat the e-liquid and scorch the wick. Most people try to avoid doing that, as the taste is unspeakably foul. To worry about a few burned chemicals in vaping is nothing compared to the 100% burned chemicals in cigarette smoke.

As for how hard it is to quit vaping, and not backslide...

Much of it depends on your situation and who you are around. I quit smoking over the course of a year with vaping, and stayed successfully quit for seven months. However I then got a job where I was around smokers at every break period and lunch. Within three months, I was back smoking again.

I have yet to kick the cigarette habit again, but I am gradually cutting back on my cigarette intake. If a person really wants an expensive hobby, they ought to try smoking + vaping. (<<<Not a serious suggestion).

    Ok, just curious.

Just as a side note, the e-cig battery issue is nothing compared to the new mandate to take affect Aug 8, 2016, with full implementation by Dec 2018. Not going into details because of forum rules. Do a quick search on the interwebs regarding FDA deeming regulations.

True. Ive got a few friends who use E-cigs and they all have the modded to produce more vapor.

I never smoked so this probably doesn't count but have always enjoyed the smell of pipe tobacco. That's usually all that I vape, something pipe-ish, with minimal (barely above zero) nicotine. I've gone months at a time not bothering with it (broken units/dead batteries I don't replace, occupied with other things, etc) and never missed it during those times. Personally, I could walk away for good and never miss it, but I enjoy it...it's not remotely a "need."

And so the viewers at home know how it works, the wick in any coil will get "burnt" eventually just from use and will start tasting bad. I use off the shelf coils and have had good luck getting a few extra uses (one or maybe 2, max) by soaking them a few days in 91% alcohol, then flushing them under running water. Since mine have already had that done, it reminds me I need to buy some new coils.

It can be done; some units (I'm told) are designed to allow for that. Most are not, and there's where the danger is.

The coil resistance (ohms) determines the battery's power delivery (amps). A mechanical build is a device that doesn't use electronics to regulate power flow. Instead, the coil provides the resistance to regulate the battery's power.

In extreme builds, the resistance of the coil is so low (sub ohm) that if a person is not careful to stay below the battery's amp limit, the stored power from the battery will "dump" in a chemical chain reaction. Heat, gas, and fire.

Most vaping enthusiasts who use mechanical mods are aware of the dangers and take precautions, measuring their batteries and ohms to remain below the battery's amp limit.

Almost all incidents have been caused by cheap Chinese eGo styled devices with rudimentary protections built in and shoddy construction.

Cigars, no added anything, just good old fashioned tobacco.
I use to smoke pipes, but haven't in a while. I have never inhaled except if on accident, but I do love the smells.

I dabbled with pipes some several years ago, until my dad had half a lung removed due to asbestos and smoking (the doc told him mostly smoking). That told me if there is such a thing as the cancer susceptibility gene (as some claim) I've got at least 50% chance of having it. Still love the smell...found a nice candle that is a fantastic pipe scent. Tatiana vanilla cigars are enjoyable too, but I've given them up.

I quit totally for about 4 months, but I have to admit it, I missed my cigarettes with my coffee and maybe after a meal once in a while. So now I allow 1 pack every weekend. And since NC is tobacco country, I can get 2 packs for $5.00. Better than paying NY prices and used to smoke about 9-10 packs a week. But e-cigs are keeping me from going back to 1 1/2 packs a day.

Don't know where you are but the main shop is 10 min. away from me and they got great service. Owner let me sample Five Pawns a few times. It's good but more than I need.
