Are Soviet Safety Razors worth it? Do they provide decent to excellent shaves or not? How is the quality of them? Or is it a crap shoot when you purchase one?

    Inquiring minds want to know

    Thanks

I don’t know about their safety razors, but their straight razors are excellent! They are made of a very hard steel, that takes some time to hone, but it stays sharp for a long time. One of my favorites.

The lower quality razors are a crap shoot. The higher quality ones are decent, but rough looking. The "Volga" for example, is a copy of a UK made aristocrat.

Edit: given the choice, I think I would take a Parker 87R over a Volga.

I second the Russian Straight Razor conclusion. I have three, and all three are fantastic shavers.

Weren’t many of the Russian Gillette clones made on Gillette machinery after they got out of the DE business in the 70’s and 80’s?

Of course, how old that machinery was and how well it was maintained may be questionable.
