Hello, all. My name is James. I'm not really that new to wet shaving but I've only recently become interested in straight razor shaving. I stopped for fuel and a bite to eat at a truck stop a few weeks ago and they had some cheap $10 straight razors. I had some points to spend so I thought "Why not?" It's not great, but it's probably not quite as bad as you might expect. That being said, I am looking for to an upgrade very soon. I'm a truck driver so it can be difficult to keep everything you need for a good shave on hand, but I've found it to be well worth the extra effort. For me it's definitely a more relaxing experience than shaving with a cartridge and there's the added benefit of significantly less irritation post shave. I'm glad I found this place. YouTube is great and all, but one-way communication can only get you so far. Looking forward to exploring the forums and meeting folk. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Welcome @jamesf8250 from here in western NY. Glad you decided to join us here at TSD. I understand the difficulties of carrying all you wish to use to an area to shave (lived in the bush of Africa). I got to the point carrying all I needed for a great shave in a jam tin (preloaded razor, boar brush, tin of shave soap, travel mirror and a wash cloth (later I added some witch hazel)). Plan ahead and it'll usually work out well.
High their, @jamesf8250 , glad you rolled in to TSD. I've been shaving with straights on Saturdays for about almost 4 years now. @Drygulch got me started (January 2017), and now I have a rotation of about 14 straights. Check out the League of Jims.
