Hi All, I recently decided to start shaving with a DE safety razor. I found this forum and will be looking for tips as Dad's tips were 40+ years ago and I pretty much forgot them! I'm looking forward to reading and posting here! Gene
Hi Gene and welcome. Do drop in on what is called the 30DC thread. Folks will generally steer you in the direction of working on good skills with your gear. Made sense to me and helped many. Enjoy the journey.
Welcome to TSD Gene @kumachan! Glad you signed up, now we can talk about it! Most everyone is proud of the gear they have chosen so if you see something that catches your eye, ask questions! An acronym you'll see, and there are many, "YMMV" meaning Your Mileage May Vary, thought I prefer "YOMV" because it specifies Opinion - With so many choices of hardware (durable goods) and software (consumables) folks tend to sample and try lots of stuff. A little reading, some conversations, and time will help you develop your preferences. Maybe you'll be one of the few Minimalist who find an acceptable setup early on. The rest of us have taken extensive Shave Journeys and amassed more gear than we can use in what's left of our lifetimes. Mentioned above; a warning and an invitation. The invitation to The 30 Day Rule / Focus Group may assist you in learning how to use the gear you have right now. Assuming it's not defective, your razor & blades, soap & brush ought to give better shave than cartridge or electric shavers. If you'd like a little coaching and cheerleading click the link in my signature at the bottom of my post. The second point - the warning about Enablers? When someone finds a product they like they'll share the info. Just ask and you'll get website links, discount coupons, samples in your mail box, etc. It's a game many of us play when we entice others to try something we enjoy. It'll coast you money, fill your cabinets with products, and may upset your Significant Other.
