does / has anyone made a trumpers skin food from scratch? looks likw h20 & glycerine - rose water at that, but what ratios? is that the rose water for cooking? i feel menthol in there too just wondering

Don't know if this will help you, but here's the ingredient list for the Coral Skin Food: Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Distillate, Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Alcohol Denatured, Astragalus Gummifer, Parfum (Fragrance), Menthol, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Citronellol, Geraniol, Linalool,, CI 17200 (FD&C Red 33), CI 14700 (FD&C Red 4).
Try this: Corn Huskers Lotion + Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel and add Nivea ASB until you get the consistency you want.
Wow I did not read the ingredients. Vor_mag Water. If they sell it as a stand alone product I am getting some for my Scotch.

i think i know how to easily obtain vor-mag water: a couple of magnets on the outside of the toilet and flush - vortexed and maggged... ust wonder if the cw or ccw vortex matters, sive the coriolis effect is opposite in nvs s hemispheres...
Thanks so much for that link. I've been experimenting with mixing my own designer witch hazel. My next one was gonna be Dickinson's WH with 30-50% Murray and Lanman's Rose Cologne. I actually think this stuff would be a better choice for the rose component because of the moisturizers. FWIW, my first outting I did a home blend of 1:1 Dickinson's WH and Fruit of the Earth Aloe. It's great and I get twice as much for the price of Thayer's Aloe fortified WH-like product.
I have made some SF before with WH and glycerine - worked quite well but it wasn't like the original. I don't remember the recipe, though, sorry.
I looked into this myself some time ago and found a common recipe for skin food to be 1 3/4 cups rosewater, 1/4 witch hazel and 6-8 drops of glycerin. Best to add the glycerin drop by drop to see what consistency you like. You can add other scents (to override the rosewater) or menthol if you like. Also, yes it is the same rosewater you use for cooking. I found the best place to buy quality rosewater at a good price is ethnic grocery stores. Witch hazel and glycerine are usually sold at most health/natural food stores. The consistency of this mix will be thinner than Trumpers, which I didn't mind, but IIRC another member added some guar gum to thicken up them mix.
While this is not an exact copy of Trumper's, it makes a good aftershave balm: 1/8 oz. quince seed, crushed 5 grains borax (1 grain=approx.1 large pinch) 1/2 oz. glycerine 1/2 oz. alcohol 1/4 oz. distilled water 7 oz. witch hazel extract 60 drops tincture of benzoin Macerate the quince in the witch hazel and glycerine for 12 hours. Filter. Mix water and alcohol and dissolve borax in it. Add to quince-gel. Add drop by drop,the benzoin and shake well. If desired, add approx. 20 to 30 drops scent blend. Bottle. A couple of notes on the recipe: the original recipe is from an early 20th century formulary, and the quantities have been scaled down. The alcohol and benzoin were used as preservatives, but benzoin is a known sensitizer, so I recommend leaving it out. The borax acted as a buffer as well as an emulsifier, but can be omitted, if desired. The alcohol can be left out as well, just increase the witch hazel to 7 1/2 oz. The shelf life would be a week or so at best, so I recommend storing this in the 'fridge. The quince seed can be procured at a health food store or at the grocer's in the form of the actual fruit. It thickens the liquids into a soothing gel. Cat
