I don't know if this is the place to post this but I was thinking of making some really nice homemade aftershaves in custom fragrances. #1 would anybody be interested in any and #2 would it actually be legal without a license or permit.
Aftershaves... a combo of water, witch hazel, vitamin E, aloe Vera, glycerin, and trying to get my hands on some NAPCA, and of course special organic fragrances. Might make a alcohol one and a alcohol free version.
Perfumer's alcohol is expensive stuff. You would probably be better off using high proof vodka or better yet, high proof everclear.
How differs perfumers alcohol from regular high percentage vodka? Let's assume they contain the same amount of %.
I found this: http://mistralni.co.uk/products/perfumers-alcohol Is it the right stuff? It's around half the price of high proof alcohol, but I can't see how high this perfumers is.
That seems about right. Which is very cheap to me, so I got doubts to whether it was the right stuff. 1 litre of pure alcohol at the store here, I think it's around 98%, is around 60 USD.
Seems like Formulators Alcohol is better suited for the job. http://mistralni.co.uk/products/formulators-alcohol I take it WH is a form of water, hence perfumers wont work since they note it does not mix with water?
The internet is rife with recipes and methods for homemade aftershave. @HolyRollah made his own Bay Rum aftershave. Look under Inside The Den, then Soapmaking and Lotions. I want to make some aftershave at some point. Sounds awesome!
It's a bit more difficult to find in the U.S., as well as being highly regulated and taxed. Perfumer's alcohol is virtually pure alcohol. Left open it will absorb water from the air, lowering it's proof. It is 200 proof. Edit: Everclear is 190 proof.
