Hmm... I'm thinkin' that's it's* not truly redneck until a shotgun, truck, and a 6-pack are involved. But, what do I know, I'm just a dag burn Yankee. *How many apostrophes can you use in a row?
I used to hear this "redneck", "Rebel", "good-ole-boy" business from my wife, a born and bred South Jersey girl, along with little digs about their "jacked-up" pick-ups with monster tires, etc. Some years ago, while in the "Garden State" on a visit, we saw ahead of us, in the distance, a pick-up jacked up so high you would have needed some kind of help to get into the cab with 4 huge, wide, dirty lugged tires. We sped up a bit to see who the heck had driven something like that to Jersey. Imagine her surprise, and my delight, when on the rear bumper what did we find?? UH! Humm! A "New Jersey" tag. Haven't heard much about "good-ole-boys" and jacked up trucks since. Aw shucks!! What part of "Yankee" do you claim?
Just wondering! We have friends in the East Hampton area. Go through Middletown getting there, etc. Nice part of the state, especially down on the CT River.
