This is how I use mine. Does anyone else have any other techniques?

Thank you for posting this. I have been thinking about looking for a barbers hone but not sure what to look for.

Any idea of the manufacturer and grit? My favorite barbers hone is a Pike Ezy Edge. They recommend using water or oil on the hone and the instructions say no lather. I find most hones (I have) a little coarser than I'd like with the exception of the Pike.

I have a Swaty and a Frictionite. I use lather but only eight laps max. I use Barbasol for the lather.

I haven't been fortunate enough to run across a Frictionite yet. The instructions with some of my other hones say to use lather but regardless they're below 8000 but with a pasted strop get an o.k. shave. The Pike will do better. Lately I've been touching things up with a black arkie and liking it alot.

I think with lather and a light touch, they seem better than 8k.
