Well, After I saw the post " How many people Don't like Derby Blades" on B&B, I decided to make this thread. I hope this is ok! I have notice also there is a high rice of people liking the new blade ST301. Instructions what to answer on this post: Why? Which Blade ST300(blue) or ST301(red)? Compare with? Dark
I have only tried the 300 so far, but I have an order for 200 from you of the 301s thanks to the positive reviews I have been hearing. I did not like the 300s. I thought they felt dull. The seemed to cut half way through some of my hair and then pull it the rest of the way out. (literally) I had to make very slow strokes to get a decent shave out of them. From what I have heard, the 301s are more similar to the Crystals and Red Packs that I love. I am looking forward to trying them, and with 200 of them, I hope I like them. :happy102
300's I will second the response of the 300's being dull. They pulled enough to make my eyes water. I tried 2 out of my sample pack and then threw them away. IMO, ANY other blade, even the belittled Merkur, is better than a Dorco 300. I am intrigued by the 301's based on feedback here and around the usual sites, but not enough to buy 200 blades. My usual blades are derbys, crystals and Walmart personnas. Tim
I don't like Dorco st300 or 301s. Why? Both of them were too harsh. The 300s were harsher than the 301s, but both caused post shave irritation, no matter what setting I used for my adjustible. For my face, they were closer to Sharp Stainless blades or even Zorrik blades. Neither of those brands work for me. But then, I'm a fan of Derby blades. Currently working my way through a package of 100.
The 300's were the worst blades I've tried to date. I couldn't even get through the 1st pass before throwing it away. Just horrible! I've a pack of 301's waiting and am hoping for much better results.
The Orange pack did not do well in a 1920 old type, but the other type did well in a Dorco plastic razor. The orange pack did pull something fierce, reminded me of Merkur or Derby.
I've only tried the 300's and thought they were about average, certainly better than Merkur's for me. I have 100 of the 301's that I need to try soon.
The 301's were so bad for me that I didn't even finish the shave with it before I threw it out. I'll be selling the rest of them soon.
Great information here guys! Keep them coming! FYI: People have actually wonder why the ST300 are so rough and harsh on their skin! Here is the answer! This blades are actually intended more for barbershops where they need cheaper blades that would be sharp and easy for those places like: sideburns, back of neck and behind the ears, basically a 1 time use. ST300 were once the ST301s, but Dorco switched the blades to go to ST301. Before the Blue package there was a red package (ST300 red pack), after they changed the pack, blades were changed. Later on the same year the ST300 were changed, Dorco introduced the ST301 and they began to appear. I know this is a bit confusing but hope it is understanable. It is a fact that the ST301 have a smoother feel to them, I can actually compare them to the (Israeli Persona or Crystal). I find it that with less sharper blades my hairs are actually less thicker. Don't know why, but this how I feel it on my face. . Any ideas why this is? Dark
I've never tried either of these blades, and after all of these negative responses, I don't plan on it.
I got one decent shave out of a 300 in my Tech, but the next attempt was terrible. I still haven't tried a 301, which is stupid, because I can get them by the bucketload for pocket change. Hmmmm....
I haven't tried them. As serendipity would have it, I just got my blade sampler pack yesterday from west coast shaving and it came with a 10 pack of 300s. I haven't tried them yet, but I will give them a shot within the next couple of days. Up until yesterday I had only tried the merkur super blades, but last night I shaved with a feather. I was very satisfied with the merkur super blades... until I tried the feather. I was warned not to try a feather until I had some experience using my DE razor (I just started wetshaving in june), so I went with the Merkurs for a while. Apparently, feathers are extremely sharp and can cause a bloodletting event if you're not careful. I guess its wise to know what you're doing with these. I dunno. I will try the Dorcos but I sincerely doubt they will be anything close to the amazing shave I get with the feather.
I tried the 300's as the first blades in my sample pack. I thought they were ok. I next tried the Merkurs:sick007 and they ended up in the back of the drawer-awful. I'm now using the Crystals and they are better than the Dorco's and have lasted about 5 - 6 WTG and XTG shaves. Derbys are next.
Tried the ST-301's today. During the shave things felt harsh but not to bad (I thought). Normally I do a 2 pass shave with touch up. Couldn't do the touch up today and barely completed the second pass. After the shave ....ugh and double ugh. My face has been sore/burning all day. Have used witch hazel and a/s balm and it is still uncomfortable. So it looks like no Dorco's for me.
