At the moment I shave every.....4-5 days or so. I was just wondering whether it's best to shave every 1-2 days to get your skin used to shaving, or wait a few days to let your face recover... Thoughts?
Before I started wet shaving with DE's, brushes, soaps and cremes, I would try to have as little as possible, sometimes going four and five days in between shaves. Now, I shave as often as possible, sometimes twice in one day. I even shave on days when I could get away with skipping a day, which was the case nearly every day last week when I was using the Feather Portable and Feather Blade combo. My shaves routinely last at least 30 minutes and I can stretch it to 45 minutes very easily when I want to.
It depends on how your shaves are. Do you have a lot of razor burn or bumps? If so shave every other day, or give your face two days to recover. If you're getting excellent shaves then there's nothing wrong and you can shave as much as you want. Your skin will tell you when you're over doing it. That's how I did it. Shaving every other day doesn't matter if your face looks like hamburger meat. Let it heal, or mostly heal and start over again..
When I was on cartridges, I shaved every 10 days in order to save money. But now I shave every day and if I could I would shave even more often. If you shave yourself nice, without ingrown, irritation etc. there's no problem in shaving once a day.
Bare in mind that I've only wet shaved about 5 times. :happy102 I get very little razor burn, if any. Usually I get a few small razor bumps/spots but hopefully as time goes on I will get less irritation (better technique etc.). I think I can improve my pre-shave routine as well to get my face better prepared for the shave.
You have to do what works best for you. You can't let anyone tell you what you MUST do because they don't know your equipment, what works for you, what your skin type is, how hard (or soft your water is - that will affect how the lather turns out), etc. My suggestion, keep reducing the number of days between shaves until you find what works for you.
Still a newbie, but weighing in anyway... My current employer (USN) ::mat requires a daily shave (M-F); I rest on Saturdays and start the week anew on Sunday's, before church. I am finding though, that like many others, I sometimes wish I had the time to shave twice a day:whacky011! Yup- I got the fever...
I've heard about that from several of you English gents. Maybe post to ask the others with hard water how they deal with it. I'm fortunate - my water is just right.
In past I shaved every 2-3 days. Having recently got SE, I shave everyday. The aforementioned I use straight and stubble was only apparent on second day towards end of it.
How often you shave depends on how fast your beard grows and what the requirements of your job are. Most of us have jobs that require us to be presentable at least 5 days a week, and unless you already have a respectable beard, that means shaving every day M-F at least. Plus the ladies dislike being scratched by your stubble on Saturday night, so unless you plan on being dateless shave on Sat too.
I shave every day, even weekends and holidays, and have for many, many years. I shave on the weekends because I believe that it's just as important to look good for my wife as it is to look good for the M-F job.
+1. "Skin will guide when the razor should glide." Your skin should be the best tell-tale sign as to when to shave, and when not to. Even though most of us here truly enjoy the wet-shaving experience, and may shave everyday (some twice a day, as noted above), let your skin tell you how often YOU should shave.
Do what your skin tells you, everyones different. For me i could shave everyday but choose not too. Its usually every other day for me.
Gosh, I would think the easy answer is whenever you felt the need. As a businessman, it's a daily thing for me. I used to skip the weekends but since returning to wet shaving with a brush and soap, I even shave on weekends too. It's a pleasure now, no longer a drudgery. bill
