I recently added this mug to my den but have no idea the history behind it or how old it is. It's much heavier than my other Old Spice mugs. Perhaps someone could help me.
Nice find. It looks like one of the older Hull Pottery mugs. http://www.oldspicecollectibles.com/Mugs/Hull Pottery.html
Wow! Thanks to the link provided by TitanTTB, this mug was produced from 1944 - early 50s. These mug was one of the fourth and last of the Hull Pottery Mugs. Thanks for the help. The Shave Den is a great place to learn.
That's a great Mug. It's a Hull potter mug. Depending on the writing on the bottom it's an 02 or 03. The 03 said "Made In the USA" and is from 1944 - 1950s. The 02 had "Shaving Soap" and "USA". The difference between these two and the 01 is the ship. Also note the different "S" in spice. It gets changed after the glass mugs are produced. I love the history of all the vintage Old Spice. Great find.
One more thing, be careful if you are going to use it. Put a washcloth under it or you will grind down the soft pottery, while you whip up some lather. Don't rub on the glaze to hard or you will rub off all that hand painting.
Check out this site: http://www.razorarchive.com/old-spice-mugs It has a fairly comprehensive description of the various Old Spice mugs. Your mug looks like #2, which would date it to the '40s.
