I started to shave when I was in high school in the late 50s. Using a Gillette de razor. Started driving trucks at 21, few years later driving long haul. It was rough using a de razor on the road. You shaved at truck stops, men's rooms, rest area men's rooms etc. I bought my first cartridge razor and that's what I shaved with until 4 months ago. The price was going nuts for my fusion blades. I was buying 3 12 packs a year. I was told about these shave clubs so I got my first shipment and tried the razor and blades. After the first shave I went back to my Gillette. Started looking up shaving on my tablet and found all this de razor forums, places to buy stuff. So I got my de razor Parker 99r shave cream proasco and a brush. Now I will be saving money, I thought. Now I have 5 de razors, 6 brushes, 3 bowls, and enough creams, and soaps and enough blades to last a lifetime, I will be 75 in August. I'm still looking for more stuff. Saving money is out the window. I would not trade my decision, I enjoy shaving and reading what you guys write, it's better than TV. That my story. Stuart g. I was 14 when I started shaving. It was just occasionally at first, but by 16 it was every day. Except for maybe a few days when I was really sick, I have shaved every single day since then.
I was 12 when dad showed me how to use his 1955 Gillette Flare Tip that was loaded with a Spoiler. For lather we used Gillette Lemon/Lime Foamy SC. That was around 1977. I only had to shave about once a week back then to keep the peach fuzz under control. Clayton
Back in Israel I was 14 when I started to shave. I remember my Dad bought me my first brush, DE, and blades, (I forgot what it was or what the brush and blades were) a tube of Noxzema lather cream that he had brought back from the States and taught me how to prepare the brush as well as how to do the lather. Then he taught me how to shave. Even back then I was enjoying it because I was the only one of all my classmates and friends who had a real beard, not peach fuzz!
I can't remember, lol. I'm guessing 15/16 at the latest. Crappy cartridge that I can't remember, but I want to say it was a mach three. Then I learned what real shaving was about two to three years ago.
17. It was senior picture time so I decided I needed to clean myself up. I didn't really think I had much, no heavy 5 o'clock shadow or anything, but turns out I did have a bit of a 'stache. I'm sure I watched my dad shave, but I don't recall every "shaving with him." I just took a bic disposable and some of the Barbosol that was on the counter and went at it.
