I am sick of waiting on my new brush to come ib, so I'm contemplating using my vintage fuller. Problem is, im a bit worried about putting a brush on my face, that I have no idea where it has been. I'm not a germophobe per se, just a little concerned if I should do it. Any idea on how to sterilized the brush? Or should i just be patient and wait for the new one?

I have and use several vintaage brushes with their original knot. I've just washed 'em up with anti-bacterial hand soap. No issues at all.

The last thing you want to do is boil it. That just may cause the knot to fall out.

i've had some vintage brushes that i just cleaned with dish soap and then lathered them and they were fine. i'm a germaphobe but felt ok doing that to the brushes.

The truth is, if it's a vintage brush, anything that may have been living in it at one time, is dead. So as others have said, all you really need to do to satisfy your phobia is find a good anti-bacterial dish soap or body wash and lather it up good and deep. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. Wash. Good to go... providing the knot isn't wore out of course.

You can use Borax or White Vinegar also.

I've used and am currently loving a vintage brush. Do like the others have said and it'll be good to go!

You know, my concern isn't with "germs" or whatnot in a used vintage brush, but rather who knows what the previous person did "with" it. Scrubbed out the toilet, litter box, oil pan, etc etc with it. Uhhh...no thanks.

I actually use a cheapie, junk, Chinese-made, Omega knock-off brush for cleaning my bathroom with. Pretty handy really. It loses hair every time I use it, so don't think it'll ever find it's way to an antique store's shelves, but.......

    alpla444 That's sweet!

Yes so true esp after the post of that bloke using it for cooking, I have also used a cheap synthetic brush for cleaning tennis rackets before I restring them.

A stiff one might make a good brush for cleaning one's keyboard or brushing the dust off one's long guns.
