Hello. I read some of the forum threads and thought I would enjoy joining. Some background: As a teenage youth I had little to no facial hair and didn't need to shave until I was a sophomore in college, and even then I only shaved a few times a week at most. I'm a bit hazy on the razor but I'm thinking most likely a Gillette Trac II. Later a fraternity brother said I need a proper razor and instructed me on getting a double edge. I don't recall the brand but it I suspect it was a Merkur with the open comb and slant. I do know it was a rare shave where I didn't cut myself but I wrote this off to what shaving entailed. Fast forward to entering the military where we were "required" to shave every day need it or not. It was back to some kind of multiblade razor and it would be for the next 35 or so years. Once retired I decided a super clean face wasn't needed and began using an electric, a Phillips Norelco 3 head. After my face adjusted to it the shave wasn't too bad. I used it for a few years and when it died I thought I would return to a "real" razor. I began with some research and decided that a double edge made sense. It didn't take long when I realized I should have done this sooner. Now I genuinely enjoy shaving and the whole procedure is a fine morning ritual. Looking forward to learning more here. Andy

Welcome, @beauport, and thank you for your service. I am an old Army guy myself. My son is in the Navy. You have come to an incredible place to learn and share.
Andy, welcome to The Shave Den from Kentucky! I'm glad you're here with us. Thanks for sharing your story.
Welcome to TSD Andy @beauport! That's a very familiar path in the story of Shave Journeys. There are a few young men taught wet shaving by their fathers, but most of us succumbed to advertising and what the stores stocked. Glad you are enjoying your shaves again! If you care to share, what's your favorite set up? Got a particular razor / soap / brush / post shave product that is working best for you? Photos are welcome
