    wchnu Duck Season!

Morning.. gotta love the later half day at work. Just getting moving around the hutch.

Not much else going on. I think I have just enough stubble to break out a nice mild SS or Tech.. maybe a injector.. if I can find the thing and have a quick shave.

I'm not really happy with this shave the Red IP gave me with the slim. I'm tempted to go after it again before I have to head out. Should I go with a Dorco 301 or a Crystal in the '49 SS?

I like the ideal of the SS... watch out for irritation though.

Razor was set for this shave no matter what. Just need to pick a blade to try. Either way it's my first go with that brand.

I vote for the Crystal. Dorco st301s are okay, but I never got a good shave with one. Then again, I regularly shave with red IPs in a slim set to 5 and I get great shaves with that setup.

Damn WARS SC is good stuff! That is some of the most unique stuff. Its lather glistens and provides so much protection. The scent is a fern/citrus blend that is heavenly!

Went with the Crystal. very nice. But try as I might, I get more irritation on my neck with the 40s SS than I do any of my others (red tip, slim, fatboy).

I need to replace my Wars.. I love that smell and it feels great on my Face.

How does a 50's model treat you? Just to be nosey.

That's weird. Aren't the super speeds supposed to be mild shavers? with the exception of the red tips... Glad to hear the crystal worked out.

    Lunchtime....

I know many of you love super speeds. However, for the most part, I gave up on SS. The only SS I keep around is a T2 (birth quarter). There is just something about their geometry that keeps me from getting a good shave and lends themselves to irritation. Maybe it is because they are mild I end up applying pressure or too many passes. Either way, I get much better shaves on simple 3-piece razors.

off the top of my head, here is how I would rate the razors I have tried.

Tier 4 (the best for me): Vintage open combs (NEW, Old Type, Shave-King), SE, Aristocrat
Tier 3 : Adjustables - Super Adjustable and FatBoy are better than Slim, Merkur HD
Tier 2: 40s style SS, Black Handled SS, red tip SS, Safety Bar 3 piece (Techs, LUX, Feather Portable),
Tier 1: Flair tip super speeds (non-red)

this was just quickly done... and now I am trying to figure out where to place a Krona. Maybe 1.5? Milord is about a 2.5.

To generalize even further... I like a substantial handle, a low profile head, and a bit of aggression? Hmmmm.....

I still say y'all need to check out the Blue Tip. It's a very nice shaver. People seem to shy away because they think "oh, it's mild...I won't be able to use it...I'll get bad shaves..." Not true at all. I like this one better than my regular SS (which is on loan to a friend), I'm just not a SS fan. I like the hefiter adjustables, 3 pieces, and SEs.

Haven't tried an SE yet but I agree about hefty adjustables and 3 pieces. I love my slim. Best razor I've owned so far.

Only 50s SS I have is the red tip. There is a discussion across the street positing that the more aggressive a shaver is, the *less* irritation. I'd have to agree. The red tip and the adjustables turned to 4 or 5 gave me far less irritation on my neck than the 40s Super Speeds.

I'll give that Crystal a run in my Slim tomorrow for a comparison.

Whew...what a day. Went to Wal Mart and tried to return a sewing machine for the GF. Refused the return b/c no receipt. Walked away and got home and called the manager. I was very nice and I am headed back right now:) Get my mind of converter boxes for while huh:)

Hola compadres. Day off today. Gotta head out pretty soon and do those fun day off errands. We got rain last night which was unexpected but nice. Whatever rain you can get in AZ is a good thing. This ain't Seattle!

A no shave day today so nuthin' to talk about there. Gonna make meatloaf for supper tonight I think. A good Midwest, stick to the ribs diet.

I can't get a good shave with the SS I have either (a Y4). Something about the head thickness maybe??? I dunno. Just not the razor for me.
