Friends in Louisiana and here in Mississippi... Take this one very serious. Even here in central Mississippi where I am, the forecast is 10 inches of rain, tropical storm winds and tornadoes. Expected to make landfall on the coast of Louisiana as a category 4 hurricane before it curves northward right up through much of Louisiana and here through Mississippi. This, with Sunday being the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina which flooded New Orleans and literally wiped most of the Mississippi Gulf Coast from the map. Keeping everyone in the effected areas in my thoughts and hoping for the best.
Never been in a hurricane. But I think this sums it up for what I'd be doing. A cat 4 is heading your way.... So.... tp
I'm about 40 miles north of New Orleans. Not gonna be nice at all. May/Probably going to lose power/internet this afternoon. Be back as soon as I can. Be safe
You be safe too! The east side is the worst side of a hurricane and it looks like we're all going to be on the east side. Forecast of 60+ mph winds and 11" of rain even as far north as here in Jackson, Mississippi.
It pretty much petered out once it got into Mississippi. It wasn't the wind and flash flooding monster they said it was supposed to be here in my area of central Mississippi. It has been raining all night and day but not a hard rain so really not much flooding. I didn't even lose power which is very rare in my neighborhood because usually we lose power when a squirrel farts on the power line. Louisiana on the other hand is a mess right now. Even Orleans Parish/City of New Orleans because of a little unexpected eastward wobble the hurricane made towards their way, instead of staying on the forecasted track further west away from them. New Orleans is in total darkness after those big major main electrical transmission power lines that supply electricity to the whole city, snapped, when one of the big huge metal towers that holds them, fell crashing to the ground... Think like the Eiffel Tower but it being placed every 5,000 ft (guesstimate) to hold main electricity transmission lines. This loss of power has also caused a major issue in neighboring Jefferson Parish (county) as their water and sewer systems are offline so no one has water and sewer. There is about half a million people living in Jefferson Parish. Right at 400,000 people living in Orleans Parish/New Orleans. So other than a few uprooted trees and some down power lines, we are pretty much perfect here in Mississippi above the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Say from I-10, North. The Mississippi Gulf Coast took on some flooding from the storm surge but it too was not the surge monster that was predicted and the main highway that runs along the beach only went under water at a few places. Definitely keep Louisiana in your thoughts. From the Louisiana Gulf Coast all the way up to the Mississippi state line, they are severely hurt.
Yes, the news is pretty scary. I hope they can keep people as safe as possible from this point forward and that casualties are minimal.
