An Italian Soap. Official name is "I Coloniali Shaving Cream Soap". I would like to know if anyone here's had any experience with this soap. Unless more than a few guys tell me it's just the worst crap in the world, I'm thinking about buying a puck and see how I like it. It seems like the Italian stuff is almost always really good.
do you know its ingredients,Brothers?by the tittle"shaving cream soap" seems like Cella or Omega/Proraso soap(a soft shaving soap)
No, unfortunately I can't find the ingredient list anywhere through Google, (except Mango Oil) but that bit of information tells me nothing. I'm hoping someone has some of this stuff and can provide not only a review of it's performance, but a list of the ingredients. (Not for me, because I really don't care what any of the ingredients of my shaving stuff is, just so I like it or don't like it, but for some real curious folks who do care!)
I was in a high end department store yesterday and they had some I Coloniali colognes--some FANTASTIC scents, and they were all very very classy. If it's the same company, I think you might do well to try the soap...let us know how it goes, and where you found it, Gary--I'm always looking for new good stuff.
I Coloniali (J & E Atkinsons) Shaving Cream with Mango oil is my favourite soap. Ingredients: water, palmitic acid, stearic acid, coconut oil, myristic acid, glycerin, potassium hydroxide, isostearic acid, sodium hydroxide, fragrance, mango seed oil, PEG-40 sorbitan lanolate, boric acid, menthol, propylene glycol, benzyl salicylate, tetrasodium edta, CI 16053 (red 40), CI42090 (blue), CI 47005 (yellow 10) It`s sent is special. Even you like it or hate it. The majority likes it.
The I Coloniali with Mango is either offered as package with a terracotta bowl or as refill. In the terracotta bowl it depends how old the soap is. If it is old, it is not that soft. Than it looks also like old french cheese Refill soaps are soft. But the consistence is even more soap than cream.
Notes after using I Coloniali Shaving Cream Soap They have a good reason to call it Shaving Cream Soap. It starts out like a soap and turns into a cream (does that make sense???). I bought one refill from ShopLondon's, and I find that it is as good as any other. It was fresh, and looked and felt like a "biscuit". Squeeze it and it's crumbly. The first time, I loaded it from the puck sliding around in a bowl, and was frustrated because it seemed (incorrectly, as I am getting ready to explain) that it didn't want to lather. I decided to mill it into an empty Irisch Moos Stick container, and when I did that, wet my face and the stick, loaded it onto my beard, and lathered with the brush on my face, it was thirsty, took ample amounts of water, and the lather is, well, as smooth and as slick as (fill in the name of your favorite here). I enjoy the fragrance and the shaving properties very much. A note on the fragrance: Same as most other products, "love it or hate it". It's unique, and thank goodness I love it. The only decision I have to make now is whether to buy one of the pretty terra cotta bowls with a lid for $40, or spend the money on two refills $18 each. I'll probably go for the bowl, AND two refills (or more) but again, loading it directly on the face from a stick seems to work as well as anything else. Now you see my delimma. I recommend that those who are interested try a refill first to see what you think.
The IC ist very popular in the german shaving forums. They gave the Soap the nickname "The Divine" and for me, it is. By far, the best Shaving Soap I have ever used. And the smell.... I can't describe it, but it is mysterious. The litte cooling effect because of the menthol in it, is great on hot days. I can only recommend this soap. You will not be disappointed.
You can't tell by looking at the package. It does say "Atkinson's of London" on the back. I think I read somewhere that it is an Italian made product, but they aren't giving credit to any country of origin on the package. There are several languages on the packaging, and unless I'm mistaken, the primary language seems to be Italian. For example on the front it says "I Coloniali Crema da Barba Per La Rasatura all'olio di Mango". The refill pucks are 100 ml, 3.6 ounces. I just today received my order of 3 refill pucks which I will mill into an empty shaving stick as they are used up. I didn't buy the pretty terra cotta bowl with lid (yet).
I think that theres a place here which carries this stuff(the terracota pot).I hope to find it there.
I really hadn't thought so, but I've just kind of lost interest in the Moos, even though there's nothing at all wrong with it. You may be right.
I really have liked it so far. It's coming up again tomorrow for a 5 day run, and I'll try to remember to come back and post after that.
