    Hi Folks!

I have recently gone back to wet shaving (had no choice when I first started shaving, but went to the cartridge dark side). :ashamed001

I have a very tough beard and VERY sensitive skin. I am seeking an excellent after shave face moisturizer - especially since I razor burn so easily. What would be a/the best after shave face moisturizers to try for sensitive skin?

I have gotten my shaving technique just about smoothed out, however, I have almost always gotten varying degrees of razor burn from shaving - so I only shave every two to three days (which my wife hates). Anyway, I need to find something to replenish facial moisture after I shave and to protect my skin - without having the product sting or irritate my skin. I would appreciate some recommendations.

In addition, I am trying different shaving soaps and creams and perhaps I can get some recommendations on those as well - to minimize damaging my skin when I shave. Thanks in advance.

Hi JR. Welcome to the Den!

    Pre-shave: I use the OCM.

    I also like Uberlather.

Post-shave: Witch Hazel is what finally stopped my razor burn. Most is sold with 14% alcohol, but you can get it alcohol-free. It's like a miracle.

There are many good after shave balms. My favorites all have at least a little alcohol. Speik is very soothing. I'm sure others will add their ideas.

Hang in there. It only gets better from here!

Using Aqua Velva Ice Blue (or suitable knock-off) followed by Nivea Extreme Comfort Balm works very well for me to keep my skin moisturized.
It also helps to use a shaving cream like Godrej that contains Lanolin to give that extra soothing touch to your skin.

I have been using The Gentlemens Refinery aftershave balm and it is working pretty good. I have a thick tough beard as well. I have just started using Dickinsons Witch Hazel from CVS and it works nice.

Using a good pre shave oil is a key. I have been using olive oil and it works well. The Gentlemens Refinery has a sample pack for 8 dollars including shipping. It comes with a pre shave oil that works great. I have been using it for a few days and I really like it.

You can't go wrong with the Nivea balms in my opinion. I like the Cooling one with some menthol. They're cheap and found just about anywhere.

Freddy88 sent me a sample of Caswell Massey Sandalwood Balm. It's sort of expensive and I can't find it locally at all, but it's the best ASB I've ever used. No burn, great scent, and dries extremely quick (and not sticky). Excellent stuff.

Corn Husker's Lotion or Fruit of the Earth Aloe would be my gouge.

Suggestions for Sensitive Skin Shaving Products..

Thanks for the recommendations. I have been trying to stay away from products with alcohol, menthol or eucalyptus as an ingredient - since these ingredients inflame my face further. Avoiding those additives sure does eliminate many recommended products though...

I am going to try a few of the recommendations made in this thread, but I am really trying to settle on one brand of shave moisturizer that would work best for me.

I will go into more detail about my shaving technique when I answer the Queen's post. Thanks much!

PS: I have already entered the August contest since I just registered for the board on August the 3rd. Last qualifier I need is to achieve a post count of 15 before the contest ends in order to be fully eligible for the contest. I posted on the contest thread and I will say it again, my thanks go out to the members who have contributed items to the August Give Away AND the contest is a GREAT way to welcome newbies.

I don't know whether you can get it in the US but the I Coloniali ASB with mango kernel-whateveritscalled is great for sensitive skin (I should know as I too have quite sensitive skin)

I don't know, guys, I still think TSD's Aftershave Milk is the best, though this Lucido stuff is giving it a run for its money, (just because it's HERE, though).

A second for Nivea . Try the Protective Lotion. Non greasy, absorbed quickly.

When my face is feeling roughed up, the art of shaving line after shave balms does me wonders. The price is a real killer though. I buy a bottle and use it on occasion.

I just picked up a bottle of the Nivea for Men aftershave balm yesterday and had my first shave with it this morning. It was awesome! Took care of all my dryness issues and my skin has felt great all day long. I'm a sensitive skin sufferer as well so I would give a recommendation to this stuff. Fragrance is very subtle.

This is my "formula" for a soothing, skin friendly aftershave:

    1) Witch Hazel + Rosewater - Splash it on. Terrific scent. Let air dry, then
    2) Proraso white balm

Nice. I haven't gone the Witch Hazel route but I'm thinking I probably will get into that stuff eventually. Lots of shavers here seem to rely on it, must be good stuff. I've been really into Italian shave products lately, haven't tried Proraso, but likewise I'm guessing I will have to get into that soon too! Only heard highest remarks on Proraso products!
