Some of you may know that I have taken up target shooting (with a .22 caliber pistol.) Sometimes, we shoot at an outdoor range -a club near our home- and sometimes at an indoor commercial range. We were at the indoor range a couple of days ago. I was using a 9-spot target & aiming at the center spot. At some point, I noticed a lot of holes in the top left spot. I couldn't imagine that I was that inaccurate. I was right; I wasn't inaccurate and those holes were too large to come from a .22. Clearly, the idiot in the next lane decided to take some shots at my target. For the benefit of those who do not shoot, here is what's wrong with that; 1) At an indoor range, you shoot straight ahead and ONLY straight ahead. Shooting at an angle (as this fool did) risks hitting the walls & having a bullet ricochet. 2) Even if that were a safe action, he shot at MY target without asking me. Had he asked, I would have said he could stand in my lane (I would step back) and shoot a few shots at it. There are few things that try my patience more than morons; armed morons are high on the list. (To be clear, my definition of "moron" is someone who says or does something foolish, despite knowing better.)
I locked myself out of my hotel room last night so that’s my idiot of the week. I actually do dumb things more than once a week but I don’t want to monopolize this thread.
I heard it was considered as a demonstration sport but ultimately rejected. Something about it being more fun than a barrel of people didn't sit well.
Oh my Gosh, that's scary: you do get dopes everywhere That reminds me, back in the '80s, when I did my basic training we were told that in the event of a weapon jam, stand still, face the front, raise your right hand and ask for assistance Well, the guy next to me (I still well remember his name!) had his R1 rifle jam, and yes he did raise his right hand all right, but whilst looking for assistance, also did a 360 degree turn together with the weapon. Nuts, same guy couldn't fry an egg and had more than one seam on his shirt sleeves. And he was in my platoon providing cover fire! @Sara-s Glad you escaped that one! I imagine a few kind words were shared?
Wow, that’s unacceptable at an outdoor range, and dangerous at an indoor range! At an outdoor 100 yard range, someone decided to take a few shots at my PVC pipe target stand. My son had borrowed it and didn’t realize at first what had happened. It was damaged to the point of not being usable. There were several shooters on the range, so no idea who did it.
I didn’t see it until the shooter had left, unfortunately. Had I seen it sooner, I’d have reported it to the RSO.
If you'd reported it anyway (not saying you didn't), the management might have IDd him and banned him for life. There are people in the world in dire need of an ass kicking.
