I've ask several people about brining some tamales to work for me to buy and they kept blowing it off. Store bought tamales aren't very good and I'm not sure how I feel about buying from random people. So for less than 30 bucks for everything I made 106 with plenty of filling left over which I'm going to save and cook for breakfast with eggs for the week. It's really time consuming but I might make this a regular thing whenever pork is on sale. This was half way through and I was going to stop to watch football but decided to push on Then about 5 minutes until half time I got them all wrapped
Lol apparently the steaming part is going to be a problem. Before I try this again I need to see about getting a custom basket made or just buying a steamer pot.
Nice. Every Sunday morning a little old lady comes through the neighborhood...tamales?tamales? I'm always leery about buying them but my wife will jump right on in.
Street tamales from Mexican grandmothers are usually amazing! I eat tamales from carts in Denver sometimes.
See I'm kind of nervous of just getting food from random people on the street. If I could find a regular person with decent prices I'd be set, although after seeing how cheap they are to make I might just do it at least once a month. I could honestly make a months supply if I made it an all night deal....which could work to my benefit being able to smoke more pipe tobacco.
They have special tamale pots at Mexican markets in various sizes. They have more than one level so you can steam many at once. In San Jose near where I live there is a little hole in the wall that makes excellent tamales so I almost never make my own. Fortunately for me it is not too close so I don't eat them every night.
