G'day all, If you don't mind me asking about the Gillette blades what does the Gillette Silver Blue, 7 O'Clock Yellow & 7 O'Clock Green blade feels like with a EJ DE89 razors, cause I'm too cautious to try this most people choose these blades with their EJ DE89 currently I'm using a Derby Extra (5) so far. Cheers
Blade choice is rather subjective. I wouldn't say "most" people choose Derby blades for anything, but that's me. I will say that most people will find Gillette branded blades an improvement over Derby's. Edit: Misread your post. Go for it! Of those three, Gillette Silver Blues have the coolest name. I say go for those. I've had good results with all of the blades mentioned in many razors...with the exception of the Derby's. Me and them don't get along at all. Have you considered purchasing a sampler pack with all 3 blades?
Speedy, I'll be happy to send you two blades of each (if I still have them - I'm sure I still have some GSB's). PM me your address and I'll send them this week.
The amazing generosity of the den strikes again...good stuff. Of the three mentioned I prefer the GSB = gillette silver blue. The 7 'O clock blue and blacks are also nice.
Absolutely no need to be afraid or overly cautious about ANY blade. Thay are all sharp and designed to cut, that's why we buy them. Some blades will feel smoother to you than others, some blades will feel sharper to you than others. You will even find blades that feel great in one razor yet absolutely horrible in another. So what is the best blade? NO ONE can answer that question for you. You MUST ask your face. One of the things many here find enjoyable is the hunt for the perfect soap-brush-razor-blade combo. Embrace the hunt without fear and have fun!
All are good blades. But, I feel the Gillette 7 o'clock Yellow are the best, and favorite blade. I didn't care for the Greens too much, they weren't the smoothest of the three. You might find a blade that works great in the EJ D89, might not work well in other razors. The EJ is a mild razor, so many blades will feel fine in it.
Get those GSB'S and go to town. I'd be cautious, scared to ever use a Derby blade again it's like shaving with broken glass!
I agree that blades are really subjective. I personally prefere Derbys over 7oclocks..but that's me. You might have a different experience and there is only one way to find out for sure..try it you'll like it..
Although each of us has our own preference when it comes to blades I think any of the ones you mentioned would be an "upgrade" from the Derby's and might just provide a more comfortable shave. I agree..go for it..
G'day all, Thanks for the feedback guys I'm getting some DE blade sample on Gillette Silver Blue & 7 O'Clock Yellow and I'll give them a spin on my EJDE89. Cheers and Happy Australia Day.
G'day All, So far after trying both DE blades for while was a GSB and 7 O'Clock Yellow and finally I'm now sticking to GSB, and I can get about 7 shaves so far without to much tugging on my bloody Aussie chin or otherwise I'll give the Russian a hard time if they let me down. Cheers.
When I dumped Derby blades, I immediately quit having weepers. Apparently I could not have a good enough precision with Derby as the razor tugged and jumped for me. It was really visible how the razor jumped. It was vibrating as crazy as it tried to slice, but ended up climbing over the stubble. My opinion is that sharper blades might give more irritation if badly handled, but they will at the same time give you better precision and are thus less dangerous.
