Gabel's aftershaves don't seem to get much love. I currently have three scents, bay rum, lilac, and sta-cool. the bay rum is a "straight" bay rum with no added scents, cinnamon, clove or the like. The lilac is very pleasant and clean smelling but not too sweet (I fine the master's to be an overly sweet smell), the sta-cool is menthol, starts out with a eucalyptus smell which quickly fades to a mint. These do not contain ingredients for moisturizing. This works well for me as I find some moisturizing aftershaves to be to much, leaving my face sticky particularly in the summer. When I need moisturizing I follow up with aveeno unscented aftershave lotion. This works well as I can get as much or little moisturizing as needed. The gabel's aftershaves smell nice, are not to loud (this is important as my wife is sensitive to strong odors) and are inexpensive. All in all they are a good value. Anyone else out there a fan of gabel's?
I only have Gabels Original after shave and I love the smell. I was told it was a favorite of the Hollywood elite back in the '30's... all the male movie stars wore it.
Gary at the Shoe Box Shave Shop turned me on to this. I love the scent of the Original. It is sort of similar to Clubman Vanilla, but not exactly. There are vanilla notes, however. I rate it as one of my favorites. You get a heck of a lot for the money. A 16oz bottle is less than $9.00
The original is a very pleasant scent. I think the lilac is my favorite. It has a light floral scent but is not overly sweet.
Had to resurrect this thread simply because I love this stuff! I have the bay rum, which is nice and subtle, Sta-cool which has a nice eucalyptus and medicine smell (it's way nicer than it sounds), and Lime, which starts off nice and strong. None of the scents last real long, which I like, and none have any moisturizer. To make up for that a little, I put on Proraso preshave first and let it soak in for several minutes before splashing on the Gabel's. Leaves me smelling clean and makes my face feel good all day!
I'm a Gabels Bay Rum fan also. Although I wished the scent lasted a bit longer like Clubman Bay Rum. I guess I'll need to give the other scents a try now.
I like what I've read and seen on Gabels.... nice to get info that the Bay Rum has no cloves! I may give it a try before next summer(or when my current Bay Rum runs out-which is Stephan's).
