Does anyone still use injectors? I know the blades are not as common anymore but Personnas are available. What quality of shave can you get from one?
Yep, some members do still use injectors, I have several that I use from time to time myself. Schick still makes blades for them, but production of theirs has moved to China. Some folks buy blades from Ted Pella also, made by ASR (Personna), thats where mine came from.
Injectors can give a perfectly fine shave. They don't get a lot of respect as they feel and look more like shaving with a cartridge. However, it is a good single edge that can give a great shave.
I have never used one, but I have noticed that I see the blades in local store more often than single edged blades and almost as often as double edged blades.
Single edge razors are a whole subculture to wet shaving. It makes no matter if you are using a 1912 GEM or my Schick Grip ( played tennis in high school) these razors can provide a great shave. My current rotation consists of a Futur, Slant, Slim adjustable, and Schick Stick (yes I had a 66 chevelle 4 speed). I encourage everyone to take advantage of the pleasure of shaving with a single edge blade and enjoy the fine shaves a Schick razor can provide.
I most def use injectors. I find them to give excellent shaves and they are quite fun to use. I prefer the older E models that have the spring that moves. Many of the G models I own have a scratch on them where people have tried to move the fixed spring. I also think they are more aggressive than the later plastic handled models. I have a type I model (?) that has a P10 on the bottom and I can shave in 3 minutes with that thing. I have been using the Chinese Schick blades and think they are pretty good. I have recently acquired some Ted Pellas, but have not had a chance to use them yet. I wish I could find an extremely sharp blade to use in these. I really like the Feathers for DE shaving.
Steve I've got an old L Type that is my go-to for a quick, close shave. I use made in the USA Schick blades, which the pharmacy neart my office still carries, so I've never used the Pella blades. If they're anything like Pella SE blades, though, I'm sure they'll do. Injectors are great - hunt one up and fool around with it. You'll be glad you did. Best Regards goshawk
I have a Schick Eversharp Hydromagic. It gives a great shave. It's also super easy to get into tighter spots like under the nose.
Using injectors You hit it right on the head as far as why I am interested in the injectors. I'm having trouble shaving under my nose with my Gillette adj. Also a little nostalgia, in the 1950's that's what my father used. I remember watching him and even trying it out when no one was around. I don't remember ever cutting myself so they must be easier to use.
Injectors are great razors that sometimes don't get the credit they deserve. I believe that the reason already mentioned here (they resemble cartridge razors) is the correct one. This is sad, as they're probably the most convenient DE razors out there. I consistently get great shaves using these razors ( I have a Schick adjustable and a Pal adjustable). They're very nimble and it's easy to shave under the nose and in the hollow under my chin. They're my go-to razor when I'm in the mood for a quick, no-nonsense shave. But there's the rub: I just don't find them as fun to use as DE's or straights. However, 'fun' is subjective and some people might just love shaving with an injector. If you wake up and just want to have a great shave, without the issues that cartridge razors give some people, then an injector is a great option. If you're a wetshaver who's into 'software' and just want your razor to shave well, then again injectors could be your answer. Or you could be like me, and use them to add some variety to your wetshaves.
With a relatively small blade gap, injectors are mild. I enjoy my type L when it comes up in rotation because of its light weight, ease of use in small spaces and the quality of the shave.
From my understanding, when flying, the TSA will not allow DE blades. However, they will allow SE injectors (accessability is key here). So my interests have been heightened because I travel so much and only "carry-on".
I have had a couple of injectors and currently have a Schick M20 adjustable injector in rotation. I reach for the injector whenever I am feeling rushed. It gives a fool proof BBS shave and makes it feel like I am cheating. I like the Chinese Schick Injector blades but if you can get your hands on the NOS Schick Plus Platinum Injector Blades, grab them. I have yet to try the Ted Pella Injector blades but will do so in the near future.
I have two injectors, a G8 and an L1, all cleaned up and ready to go. Cleaning the gunk out of the G8 wasn't easy, but it's looking good now. I just want to get a bit more practice with my Gems before trying these, but I'll definitely get to them fairly soon. I have a package of the CVS injector blades as well as some of the Chinese Schicks, and will try both.
