Anyone else use these? I just got an Instant Pot and am in the process of learning to use it. So far, so good. It cooked the purple rice perfectly. Did a good job with the oatmeal. The rice pudding wasn't great, but that was the fault of the recipe, not the product. So if you use one of these; 1) Stovetop or electric? 2) Brand? 3) Favorite things to cook in it?
I have an Instant Pot (electric). Every week I hard-boil 2 dozen fresh eggs in mine. The eggs practically jump out of the shells when it's time to peel. Fresh eggs are not easy to peel normally. I like that I can put in frozen meat, and within 30 or so minutes have dinner ready. I hate throwing away thawed meat that I wasn't able to get cooked in time. Things I make in my Instant Pot; Mushroom Risotto Baked Pasta Pot Roast Curry
I have an electric instant pot 5 qt pressure cooker. Don't konw the exact model but it is one with a sous vide option. I primarily use the slow cooker function to make broths for soup or to cook with as needed. I also use the sous vide function to cook meats and fish, make yogurt and pasteurize fresh eggs that have been sitting around awhile or for making mayonnaise.
I have the 3 quart, which is ideal for the 2 of us. In doing a bit of research, I discovered that you can put a steam diverter on it. Seemed like a good idea, so I got one. Meet Fulton; He is very happy to accompany his friend Marvin ( a nod to my fondness for the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy )
I don't recall what website I got the recipe from, but like any recipe that passes initial testing, I transcribed it as I like my recipes (minimal words). If you need me to elaborate on any of the recipe let me know. Baked Pasta - Instant Pot Olive Oil 1 Onion 2 tsp Garlic 1 lb Italian Sausage Italian Seasoning 2.5 C Water 2 - 24 oz jars of Pasta Sauce 1 lb Penne or Ziti 8 oz Mozzarella 0.5 C Parmesan Sauté onion and garlic in instant pot Add Italian sausage and brown Add seasoning, water, pasta, and 1 jar of pasta sauce Cook High Pressure 5 minutes Quick release pressure Add cheeses and second jar of pasta sauce
I have a few pressure cookers, brand names, don't know, I use them on my stove. I have an instapot that I've never used, it was a Christmas gift. One pressure cooker I have and like is a small 3 quart I use for camping. It's small, lite, and cooks stuff with less fuel. tp
We tried using it for the pre-cooked boneless ribs the other night. Texture was very good. I liked the taste, but my husband thought they tasted bland. So we won't be doing that again, but that's OK. Sometimes you have to just try things.
So far, my best results have been with grains. I cooked basmati rice last night & couscous tonight. Both cooked just right-good texture & taste. It has also done great with the purple rice & with oatmeal.
Running into a problem; I follow the recipe for grits to the letter. I use stone-ground grits, as the r3ecipe says. But they keep burning. I have not idea why. Any help would be appreciated.
Grits really are brought to a boil then cooked low and slow. Try turning off the heat or turning the heat to low after you get to temperature or pressure. Might try to add more liquid but that might make them gooyie. Also being a grain, the ones you are using might not have as much moisture in them or they absorb moisture quicker than what the recipe was made for. Water in atmospheric pressure boils around 212 degrees F at sea level. But a pressure cooker raises the pressure about 15 lbs. If I remember correctly add 3 degrees for each lbs of pressure. So 45 plus 212 is 257 degrees. So you may be running out of liquid faster than the recipe takes into account. I haven't cooked grits in a few years but I found it to be an art sometimes. Good luck!
I had some success with the Instant Pot grits. I used a silicone bowl as a double-boiler insert. I put water in the bottom of the pot, then put down the trivet. I put the grits & water in the silicone bowl on top of the trivet, pressurized, cooked, etc. No burned grits!
Tried something new yesterday- egg bites, kind of like the ones they sell at Starbuck's. They came out quite good- fluffy & tasty. I still need to modify the recipe a bit, but all in good time.
I have a Farberware and I love it! Been making beef and chicken bone broth, soups, and even steamed vegetables. Not sure I’ve had anything bad yet! Will be making another round of bone broth soon. I love the fact that it’s easy to use and doesn’t heat up the kitchen.
I mentioned this in another thread. This week, I made yogurt in the Instant Pot. . Hubby loves it. While I don’t hate it, I’ve never had a taste for it. But since it’s very healthy, I want to develop that taste. So today, as a midday snack, I had a small dish of it, with a little honey & vanilla. It was quite tasty.
