Good morning. New member here from Pennsylvania, USA. Not at all new to wet shaving but new to moving beyond the can and cartridge. I've just purchased my first safety razor, Merkur 34c, and some Stirling Barbershop soap (love the scent!). This is a switch from my Mach 3 and Nivea gel or Foamy. Current brush: a mid-90s Surrey boar that I have not used in a long time. Definitely looking to upgrade. My go to after shaves: Nivea unscented alcohol-free sensitive skin formula, Afta (original/green), Gillette sensitive skin Some new after shaves: Aqua Velva Ice Blue, Duke Cannon Ice Cold, Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood Looking forward to expanding my knowledge and my den. All best, Leo501
Welcome from Alabama the Heart of Dixie! What part of PA are ya from. My wife is originally from the area above Johnstown.
Welcome to TSD @Leo501! Glad you signed up. Now we can talk about it. This is your own personal thread so feel free to ask questions. You're sure to get opinions, advice, even actual information. Up to you to separate them out. I've got one of those Surrey/Van Der Hagen boar brushes. Decent quality for the price, though they tend to shed bristles. Especially when left unused for a period of time. If you are considering replacing it the latest generation of synthetic bristle brushes serve well. They tend to be soft, dry quickly, and make great lather. There's a Chinese seller called Yaqi that may have been the wholesaler to many companies, but now they sell single brushes with lots of options for cool handles or bristles. Should you prefer the scritchy scrub of a boar brush (I do!) can't go wrong with an Omega boar. Their Professional model 10098 is a good quality, long lasting, & inexpensive product. I purchased a new one nearly 4 years ago and it's still one of my favorites. Bought another new one just to harvest the knot to install in another handle.
