1. Since the blade is being replaced, do you guys think it's a bad idea to buy a safety razor used?

  2. I think 99,9% of the members here have a razor that has been used by someone else.
Are you worrying about the hygiene?
  3. Yes!
It's like potato chips - you can't eat just one.
First you buy one vintage razor and then pretty soon you buy another vintage razor and then before you know it you've got twenty vintage razors.
And then you start hiding your purchases so your wife doesn't know you've got duplicates of razors you've already bought.
Take my word for it, its a bad idea - don't start

  5. With the history of all the great razors that can connect you to the past, with the savings over new, I'd say it's a bad idea to buy a new razor.

  9. I have about 35 "used" safety razors. As long as you clean and sanitize then you're good to go!

  11. All my razors are old secondhand used razors I don't own a new modern razor anymore.

  12. I'd say that used and/or vintage razors are the lifeblood of the hobby for many. Regarding hygiene, you'll find differing views on how best to clean used razors before use, but barbicide and scrubbing bubbles (without bleach) are both popular methods.
  13. Now what a minute. I don't hide my duplicate razors (12) from my wife. She's already said she was not interested last time I tried to show her my new razor, so I'm just being thoughtful by not bothering her again.
  14. I love using used older razors.....I like giving new life to something that has probably laid dormant for decades....also gives you a tangible example of one part of life for a prior generation that you can experience yourself today!
  15. Vintage, used razors have more character. To think, someone was able to get great shaves from the very razor, in your hand, 100 years ago.
Just sanitize it, and no worries about germs.
  16. :happy097: That was great!

  19. I only have 2 new razors. I hate one and let the kids play with it sans blade and the other it my shavette.
