Is it a bit overkill to sanitize a new razor like an iKon ?

Won't hurt anything! If it make you feel more comfortable, do it.

Well the fact that you don't know who or what was handling it before you received it is reason enough for me.

I don't. Never thought about it before. No reason why you couldn't if you wanted to.

I would rather be safe than get a nasty fungus they can't identify. ;)

I use 71% alcohol on every razor that comes thru the door before I will use it! :)

What would be the benefit of using barbicide on your razors?

A little isopropyl alcohol won't hurt. I use it on all my razors during cleanup.

It can't hurt anything. I have never sanitized any razor I have and I only use vintage Gillettes. I've never been a germaphobe and the 5 second rule turns into the 60 second rule for me.

I doubt there is really a need, but I also can't see the harm in it.

While like @Ryan B I'm also not a germaphobe either and I also tend to stretch the 5 second rule. That said I always wash(Dawn detergent, water and maybe a bit of scrubbing bubbles) everything new or used first time out the gate. I'm not sure if that counts as sanitizing? :)

I sanitize all my razors for my peace of mind. It's cheap and easy, so why not? This topic gets a ton of discussion on the shaving forums, and it boils down to YMMV. :happy088:

Be careful applying the five-second rule. You can't trust a germ to follow rules! :angry021:

Overkill, not at all. No harm in sanitizing any razor. :happy088:

New or used every razor (and a used synthetic brush I purchased) gets dropped in barbicide for 10 minutes....if nothing else piece of mind....

Makes more sense to sanitize the blade because that's what cuts you, not the razor. Total overkill.

Not overkill at all. It makes me feel better to sanitize the razors, new or used.

Just sanitize for your own piece of mind and move on.

To me, overkill. But it isn't my razor. It's your razor. Do what you want.
