Hi all! I am an experienced beard grower, and not so experienced shaver, this year I have been without a beard. Long story short. I have been looking for the right razor and cream to use when shaving my face to limit irritation. I tried a new combo today and came out looking like this. Is this razor burn? If so, how long does it usually last? Anything I can do to sooth this? I have a vacation in 10 days I leave for and would hate to have these red blotches on my face...ugh! I applied some neosporin to it in hopes it will help.
Thank you, what would you guess it is? It appeared literally right after shaving and has an itching/burning sensation. Still kind of burns. I am going to take some Benadryl and see if it helps.
I believe it could be hives, caused by something...what? I am unsure. But the spots seem to be leaking a clear fluid that is typical with hives.
I am not qualified to diagnose, but I will go with "more than razor burn". Could be scrapes from bad blade angle, could be a sensitivity to a soap ingredient. Likely some of both.
According to the Wife (8 years in the medical field) that looks like an allergic reaction. Her advise: Go get it checked. My advise? Listen to my wife. If it is an allergic reaction you don't really want to wait to see if it subsides. It could get worse and at that point bad things could happen. Keep us posted.
I would try Benedryl cream, after an application, a good application, of Povidone/Iodine solution. The Povidone should kill any bacteria setting up, and the Benedryl will take care of any allergic reactions. Out of curiosity, do you use any aftershaves? If so, which ones?
That certainly doesn't look right. Did you get up close in the mirror to see if you had any ingrown hairs in those patches? I wonder if they are similar to an abscess? Best of luck on a speedy recovery.
I would definitely get that looked at, my wife also a nurse and I would follow the nurses advise from above. But it also looks like the rash I had when I had bent bars on my vintage razor. mine were higher on my cheek and burned for hours no matter what I did. I couldn't see that the bars were bent on my razor until I was trying to take a picture with my phone.
I hope you get it checked out. But, in case it is your gear/soap/aftershave, it would help t tell us exactly what you are using; razor, brand of blade, brand & scent of soap, etc.
