    Hey, just wondering...

can you take the Clubman Jumbo styptic pencil and grind it up into a powder to use in witch hazel?

You could grind up just about anything you'd like and put it in witch hazel. Dog biscuits, crab shells, charm bracelets... you name it.

But if you're expecting a ground up styptic pencil to act like an unground up stypic pencil, good luck, You'll need to grind up many styptic pencils for the desired effect. And you don't want to do this. Styptic leaves behind white residue, so instead of a tiny dab of white residue on the nick, you now have white residue delivered all over your face.

That said, there are styptic gels available that you may like.

Okay. Thanks. I only consider this because if you leave the styptic on your face, no lather will cover that particular area until you wash it off. Which is why I would consider it as part of my after-shave. I don't bleed profusely or anything anymore. Just to help seal the random weeper that doesn't end from a cold water splash.

Any reason you wouldn't consider Alum instead?

You shouldn't be using it until after you're done shaving, so no lather sticking to that area shouldn't make a difference. Also, you really shouldn't be making a spot bigger than say the head of a pin. Just enough to cover the nick, basically.

I can get Clubman Jumbo pencils at Walmart for $1.98 vs $10 a pound on Amazon Prime for the powder. Just a convenience/DIY coolness/cheap-o factor.

So, I literally took the whole stick and dumped it in 16oz of witch hazel and it all dissolved. We shall see how it is next time I shave.

Sometimes I may get a small weeper. So after finishing the shave, I will cold rinse, and put more lather on it. I then rinse out the brush, rinse the razor, towel the counter, waste time...basically wait a couple of minutes for the blood trapped under the foam to coagulate, then gently rinse. That alone takes a care of most of them in my case. I picked up that tip on somewhere on this forum. Ymmv.

Alum block as AS? It stops small weepers almost instantly. I use one for feedback mostly, as it will show you if your technique goes too deep through the lovely negative sensation of pain. It's part of the routine, though I generally rinse it right back off, but I like the way it tightens the skin a tiny bit. Just rub the dry alum block on your wet face immediately after rinsing the last pass. If it just feels like a cool smooth stone, with no or little burn, then rinse and proceed. If you feel burn or weepers then let the alum dry on your face before rinsing, then proceed with aftercare. Alum is also astrigent and has antibacterial properties, and is essential for good dill pickles. Again, ymmv.

I saw on a shaving video on youtube a barber said to put spit on weepers. I did it several times and it seemed to work on small weepers. Since I've been on blood thinners the only things that really work are not nicking myself(my preferred method) or using small bandaids..:happy097:

All good tips. I basically took the whole Clubman jumbo styptic pencil and dissolved it in 16oz of Witch Hazel. I have to shake it up to use it, but, it's just a trial. We shall see how it goes the next time I bleed. I had a fantastic bloodless shave yesterday, and it tightened my face right up, then I washed it off after a couple of minutes, and put on my DIY Tendskin and face lotion.
