I know that some have posted threads before about Pasteur"s Pharmacy in New York City, but just wanted to add my $0.02 worth.

Amazing that a "pharmacy" can have an amazing selection such as this. Just about EVERY brand you ever heard of is there; packed in such a tiny narrow store. They have at least 8-9 shelves for EACH brand. They even have a few SHELVES, not items, of fine razors. They also carry Simpson brushes!
You could easily spend an hour or more in there. But what I think makes them really shine is that they have sample bottles of almost every scent for every line. If they don't, you can easily open any box and get an idea of it's scent.
I know there are many guys that want to try a lot of different brands/scents but don't want to waste the money trying. At this store you can try EVERYTHING.

For myself, I have been searching for a line of products to settle on (pre-shave to aftershave) and have absolutely NO place in my area. I had my search pretty much down to T&H and TOBS. I have been buying a couple of different things off the Internet but hadn't found "my scent" yet.
Here, I sampled a lot and settled on TOBS "luxury" line, especially the after shave. I would have never even attempted to buy their "luxury" line, but here I was able to sample it and it was great for me.
I even tried Musgo AS and liked that also. They have their full line also.
You may notice that on one of the photos, you see a sign on the shelf that says "Do not open sealed items". You can still "sniff" since 99% of all boxes and bottles are NOT sealed. Some items like Pinaud Bay Rum were, but that's about it.

If you live even a couple hours away, it's worth your while to see this store.

    Some day. Some day.

I'm only a few hours down the tracks. I can catch the River Line to Trenton, then another train up to NYC (yeah, could drive. Just wouldn't want to hassle with trying to find a parking spot). Just haven't done it......... yet. My son has. Says it's easy. He's young and a bit more adventurous than I am, though.

They cram a lot in that store. Did you notice the brush and razors at the checkout?

I'm not sure which Pasteur's location you visited, but the mid town one on Lexington had a number of Simpson brushes and Merkur razors at the check out. I like Pasteur's. The prices are reasonable and each time I received a number of free samples. Another nice place to visit is Cambridge Apothecary which is only a half block from Pasteur's.

I had plans to visit them over the holidays and never made it. Probably a good thing for my wallet. I'll get there at some point...

I've been to NYC twice last year from Down Under. Both times visited the 34st store - amazing! Just HAD to buy some stuff of course :)

Nice to be able to hold your Simpson and check it out before purchasing

Very awesome. My husband & I went yesterday. It's amazing how they squeeze a huge selection into a small store.

Indeed. The shelves are crammed from ankle height to about 8 feet up. Not much room to turn around, but a whole lot of stuff crammed in there.

    Well worth the trip.

Do any of you know if there is place like this in Chicago? I'll probably be there sometime this summer.

Last time I was there, all the razors and brushes were at the cash register behind glass. I should go visit again, but I really dont want to spend the money that just finds a way to leave my pocket in the store. Which location did you visit?
