This came in to see if I could fix the "Re-grind" that was done to it

These Chatter marks are caused by someone doing a "Re-Hollow using a traditional scraper called a Sen... Used after the razor has been hardened they leave a rougher surface and a chattering on the steel

You see this on many of the older well used Kamisori

This one had enough "Meat" on it that I could actually put it on the 2x72 and get a true re-grind done

Now on to the hones as soon as I can feel my fingertips again

:shocked003: I have never seen anything like that before, I am amazed you were able to save it.

Do you have to keep the metal cool to avoid damaging the temper? Occasional dips in ice water while grinding?

Yes but the real objective is to never let it get hot
If you do the grinding using your fingers and thumbs as the heat sensors, it keeps the heat well below the 300° danger zone

BUT I have realized that after a regrind my fingertips will not activate my phone for about 3 days hehehe
