Knot size question

?

any info on the correct knot size ? have an old one like to restore it, if possible

    Do you have any calipers, digital or otherwise?

    If so, just measure it.

    Then subtract 1-2mm to allow for the spread above the plug before it emerges from the handle.

    Yup. Guessing isn't good when measuring and getting it right is so easy to do.

    I've done several of these "Burma Shave"/ "Ever Ready" brushes with 22mm synthetic knots from various vendors. However, in every case, I had to enlarge the hole with a Dremel tool to seat the knot at the right depth since every knot spreads out above the plug, and the given knot size is the width of the plug.
